Hi
Not quite true but close.......I'm a good piste skier and have had a few plays on the side and gone off piste but only from one piste to another. I've picked up some off piste gear from fellow snowheads and now want to give off piste a go. I've looked at some off piste courses and private lessons and TBH it's a bit pricey. I've already made plans for my piste based trip this year so money is tight
What options are there to do say 3 or 4 days in a group but without, or with basic, accommodation?
Failing that I'm in Avoriaz Morzine Chatel area from 21 Feb to 6 March so if somebody wants to show me the ropes in exchange for lunch and beer I'll not say no!!

Two weeks - good for you! Do you have a car in PDS? If so, book a day trip to do the Vallee Blanche in Chamonix early in the first week. If you enjoy it, talk to the guide about how you might follow it up - he may know of a group needing an extra. Alternatively, you could do what I did, get a group of friends together and hire a guide for a day. You won't look back (except to see your tracks)

Why not book a few days with the local ski school and ask for their off piste instructors. You won't regret it. Oh sorry forgot you said you were in France. Scrub that then!

I would agree with @Old Man Of Lech, ESF and the independents all offer excellent instruction. Personally I wouldn't consider having a private off piste lesson for just me. A group would be much better. Or just enquire at the bureau des guides and join one of their guided trips.

I've roped in 2 of my group to consider a 3 hr session with BASS - it works out £70 each for 3 hours. Is that good??

@charliesimpson, The going rate for a guide (look for the qualification UIAGM, better qualified, more versatile), not instructor, is 330 euros/day. I'd get a guide. Nor only is he/she better value, s/he will open your eyes to a whole new world...

Uh, for someone who chose to ski rather a lot in France, you're pretty negative now.

Depending on age/attitude, I highly recommend UCPA. Normal ages are 18-40, but they're now doing up to 55 on specific courses (mostly off piste/touring courses).
Basic accom (catered hostel style, clean up after yourself), but all the gear you need and a mountain guide/instructor and ski pass thrown in. You'll be grouped into similar abilities and take it from there.
Even if you're not keen for beers with the kids, you can still enjoy skiing all day with like minded people, have food together min the evening and then retire early (take earplugs  )
Choose your resort carefully, some of the accom is brand new, some rather more rustic...
