Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

The one that has availability for the dates you want wink

Seriously, it's a popular resort and they get booked up.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

The easiest thing to do is probably to get in touch with the tourist office with your dates and requirements (Non-binding enquiry here: http://www.ischgl.com/en/relax/accommodation/ ), those that have availability will get back to you. Then use Google Maps to narrow them down by location if necessary (it's worth noting that the Dorftunnel (pedestrian tunnel with moving walkway) goes from the town centre with a mid-way access point, making a lot of the central hotels more accessible than they otherwise appear), and then if you have a shortlist and can't decide, we may be able to help you with specifics Very Happy

Hotel Fliana.

I do remember seeing the Hotel Post while we were there and thought it looked lovely.

But to be honest, Ischgl is pricey and mostly pretty upmarket, so as said - just see what's available.

There is only one 5* but loads of 4*. You're spoiled for choice. The 5* is the Royal Trofana. I wouldn't worry too much about location. There's nothing very far from a lift.

We always stay in a really cheap hotel that's 'full of character', preferring to spend our money on beer and meat rather than beds but do have some experience from visiting hotel bars.

Trofana Royal
+ Very nice, grown-up hotel with a great, quiet bar. Restaurant had a Michelin star a few years-ago.
- Expensive and full of fat old russian men and their young trophy wives.

Hotel Elizabeth
+ Very 'cool' design hotel.

Hotel Yscla
+ Can't comment as only went for food - and that's NOT in this column...
- Calls it's self "the gourmet hotel in Ischgl" but seriously poor. Booked a private table for 6 of us for the tasting menu for my 40th and the food was average. The table staff were very good but not so much the kitchen. The high- (or maybe low-) light was the dessert soufflet. We don't know what the first one was like because the head waiter took one lookat it and sent it back to the kitchen. The second one 20min later was served and tasted fine...if you ignored the gritty texture of the undissolved sugar. NOT a 112Euro meal.

@Kiters, don't look down on 4-star S category hotels - these are really 5 -star but do not want or need a 24 hour kitchen (for room service) or 24 hour portering costs.

We always stayed at Hotel Jagerhof with Inghams. It is about 20 yards from the lift which takes you down to the centre of the traveltator; turn left for the fimbabahn and right for town centre. Food was always great as is the service. You can ski back to within 50m of the hotel too. Only thing it gets booked up pretty quick. Haven't stayed in any others but heard good things Fliana too.
