Hi. We're driving down through France to Chamonix on 26th and 27th December which is Boxing Day and a Sunday. We were going to stop at a supermarket on Sunday but it looks like they'll all be closed. Does anyone know if they're open on Boxing Day?
Thanks.

French supermarkets close on Sunday, but will be open on Saturday. There are slightly different rules in tourist areas so you will probably find small resort shops open on Sunday

They'll be open on Saturday but even in resort limited opening hours on Sunday. I think any Sunday open ones in Chamonix for example close at 12h00.

We were hoping to do a big shop before getting to Chamonix. The wine is a lot cheaper outside. In fact, it's extortionate in chamonix.

Jonesj, You may be able to find details of the opening times on the supermarket website nearer the time, where are you planning to stop on the Saturday night ?

Woah there- there will be one open until 12 somewhere near Chamonix - Super U and Carrefour normally are. Google their dimanche horaires. Easy.

@rjs, hi, we're staying just outside Troyes, catching the 12:30 euro tunnel and hopefully a quiet drive down.
Cheers all.

under a new name, The OP isn't going to get from Troyes to Chamonix for 12:15.

The OP is likely to arrive after the supermarkets close, by the sound of it and there probably won't by any supermarkets open further north. I would lay in some essential stocks before leaving the UK, possibly including some vino.
I can't remember anything about French supermarkets on Boxing Day. There may be some opening that day and supermarket websites will have details nearer the time.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

It's France it's a Bank Holiday low chance of the Supermarkets being open!

Morzine Carrefour in town is open til 8pm on a Sunday. I can't imagine Chamonix is that different is it?
@under a new name, yes but you were talking about Cham. I was suggesting stopping up the road - maybe Annemasse or similar if time is not on the OP side.

You know it makes sense.

@Nadenoodlee, surprisingly enough, it is...
There is (I think) a Casino open in the afternoon but it is the most expensive retailer in the world.

UK Supermarkets don't have their Christmas opening hours published yet, I think you will need to wait a bit for the French ones.
The Intermarche chain seems to have more big branches open on a Sunday than most, there are several around Troyes or pick one in Dijon if you will be leaving Troyes early.

As Sunday 27th December is a normal day I would assume the supermarkets will be open in the morning such as this one:

Unless someone knows different.

The list within that very post which sets out all the bank holidays in France @under a new name,.
OP should have no problems stocking up on 26th nor 27th, albeit not in Chamonix itself as your supermarkets are all closed from 12pm.
