Arinsal - locker info required

Hi - off to Arinsal for Feb half term - 3 adults 2 teenagers 2 kids - can anyone advise re locker options, locations & costs? Thanks Mike

Depending on where you are staying there are quite a few options...

First, your hotel/apartment might have free ski lockers - let me know where you're staying and I'll try to advise.

Next, there are lockers in the Sant Moritz rental shop in the village centre (€39 for six days - max 4 sets per locker) if you rent your skis from there. They also have lockers in their shop at the top of the gondola (€54 for six days - max 4 sets per locker).

Another option are the lockers operated by the mountain (again €54 for six days - max 4 sets per locker) - these are at the top of the gondola on the ground floor around the left-hand side of the main building.

Finally, your tour operator might have a 'cage' which is usually €10 per set of skis and is a communal locker just by the mountain lockers. It's unlocked during the day and locked at night, and to get 'booked in' you just need to speak to your holiday rep.

Yes it is about 10 minutes walk - to the best of my knowledge they have free lockers in their garage but that means taking them up and down every day although there is a free ski bus that goes from just about opposite the hotel.

You'll need to Register first of course.

Gothard is certanly a bit away from Gondala or 4 man crest cair, so best to hire a locker / cage.

Basically not bad ;
Arinsal catches the sun so slushy/chopped in afternoon, be careful . In the morning pretty good, no bare patches

Pal a bit better and Arcalis (daily free bus) pretty good (all covered on your lift pass)

Food/service on mountain, not great, if you have time, Gondala down (approx 10 mins) for lunch, lots of places near Gondala, esp "rest.360"

After all it is free

As kendub says - not bad, but not amazing either at the moment! Definately worth taking the free bus over to Arcalis for a couple of days.

Having learned the hard way, with kids, the best thing to do is hire your own locker on the mountain.
DO NOT use the cages offered by the reps.

Arinsal is not really ski in ski out so if you do not have a locker on the mountain you will have to carry your gear to the gondola and up, when you have kids and their stuff to carry it is a real pain.
You will be offered a locker by the reps but it is just a cage and used by all the guests of your tour operator. THEY have the keys and only open at certain times (am and late pm) and the big negative is that they are skis only.....NOT boots.
So even if you dump your ski's here at their set times you still have to walk back to your hotel in your ski boots, via the gondala.

If you hire a locker form the lift pass office on the hill you can leave your skis, boots and helmets in there for the next day. You can travel up there in your comfy shoes and change in the big changing rooms. The rooms are heated and dry your boots just nice!!!

DO not try to save a couple of euros, you will regret it.....We paid our rep for the cage and realised our mistake on the first day....we paid again to get our own private locker.

Snapzzz - thanks for warning, good to know about the cage ski only restriction, hadn't appreciated that.
I had a similar experience at Livigno trying to carry 3 lots of equipment & boots back to hotel the first night....never again, which is why I'm obsessed with the lockers !!!!

You know it makes sense.

Just back from Pal/Arinsal area. We used the private mountain lockers which were super convenient. If you order a free Club Vallnord card, http://en.vallnord.com/club_vallnord-club.aspx you save 10% on the cost of locker hire, food and drinks on the slopes (and some restraunts in town) and in certain shops. Well worth it if you get the chance to order one...

Back from holiday - Arinsal was great, perfect for beginners / intermediates. The advise re the lockers at the top of the gondola was spot on .... we ended up hiring a ten ski locker for 102 euro for 6 days - more than big enough to hold 7 pairs of skis and poles, 7 pairs of boots and 7 xhelmets. Room was heated as well so equipment was (mostly) dry in the morning. St Gothard was only 10 minute walk, but all up hill which was a killer in the morning....so after day 2 we stuck to the free ski bus.

Hi, I've heard there are larger locker for boots etc at the top of the Gondla but I can only find the shops lockers which are for 4 pairs of skis only, are there other locker at the top ?
