Welcome socialhippy.
As you won't be booking accommodation, you can watch the early season snow and then decide where to go. However, you could be looking for somewhere high and snowsure - in which case Tignes in France would fit the bill.
There's a large outdoor car park at Tignes Les Brevieres, which always seems to have a fair few seasonairre motor home type vehicles parked there.
Les Brevieres is a proper old mountain village and is small but quite pretty. At 1500m, it's below the main Tignes resorts, which are at 2100m. It may not be possible to ski down to Les Brev in very early season but lift connections are good.

@socialhippy, there's a campsite in Montchavin (part of the La Plagne domain) which is full of motorhomes and caravans in the winter.

Soll is also an option as there's a winter campsite there
And with a skiwelt lift pass I know I can go anywhere

Chamonix has a large bus car park that had loads of Motorhomes/vans in it last season. No charge but also no facilities. It's just on the approach to the roundabout above the Montenvers rail station.

I'm pretty sure Alpe D'huez has a park in the Les Bergers area of the resort - if you haven't skied in a few years then this could be a good option as plenty of easy runs - reasonably high altitude so as long as it's cold enough then there should be a fair bit of terrain open - though I guess that depends on the week you are looking to go - i'm not sure how long from Calais though - but as it's only about an hour from Grenoble then the road links should be good. Edit- Just checked - 8-1/2 hours according to google or 9-1/2 hours on via Michelin - that's using the tolls of course.
As others have said it's probably best if you do a bit of research with options of different areas/countries and leave it till the last minute to decide where the best conditions are likely to be as getting a spot in December shouldn't be an issue.

Ok a little more than 10hrs from calais. Bormio has a very large camper van car park next to the main lift station.
