Hi everyone,
I'm taking the opportunity to ski/board in Niseko in January, and am going to be there between the 22nd and 31s of January. I feel a bit blind going in (despite reading stuff about it online).
I'm travelling alone, so would prefer to find a place where it's relatively easy to meet people, but don't want to share rooms in hostels.
I'm looking both for specific hotel ideas if people have them, but also for general advice and tips from people who have been there.
Any thoughts welcome

It never is in the mountains, but one has to live with that if one is going. I'm more interested in if anyone knows good places which are more social, as don't want to end up in a hotel full of pensioners. Not that I need some crazy neverending party, but something in between.

I stayed here http://www.aacniseko.com/ on my own for a few days last season. It was great. Its the Australian Alpine Club, so will be a lot of Aussies, so will be sociable. You might be there for Australia Day too?. I had my own room at a very good rate. Its a 10 minute stroll to the centre of Grand Hirafu where all the restuarants and bars are, and a 5 minute regular bus ride to the slopes. Basic, but good accommodation, with en suite.

I can recommend Black Diamond Lodge and Annupuri Lodge for meeting people with ski with on solo trips. Both are hostel-style but have private rooms too. Both have communal meals, bars, chilling areas etc.

Amazing, many thanks guys. Will check both of those out. I've pre-booked a communal cubicle style hotel for now (free cancellation), so will look into both of those options. I'm not that fussed (even though my OP may indicate otherwise), and apprecaite the tips.

Stayed in both Moiwa Lodge & Ramat Niseko last Dec.
Both should fit your bag in terms of being able to meet people. (and a _lot_ of Aussies at that(!))
