Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi morgan441937, you could investigate those below and see if they suit you:

CaravanSkier - have you got a couple of favourites? Being a "CaravanSkier" might suggest you might? We have often talked about driving up but whilst we do so in the summer, we've never braved it in the winter months..... The main issue is drying off the boots and gear in less than ideal conditions. Do these places have drying rooms and - the perhaps more importantly - would you dare leave your jacket etc in one? Thanks

@pc, we have left skis, boots, jackets in such places with no problems, and we have never had any problems with theft etc ! But it is a few years since we did it. The increase in fuel costs along with our children now all being adults and all living in different parts of Europe changed the dynamics!

However, if you take a porch awning with a steep sloping roof, best reinforced with a couple of extra support poles, and you take the time to to make sure not too much snow accumulates on the top if you have lots of snowfall, with the 'right' set up you can dry kit with no site facilities at all! We did in our early days before most sites had drying rooms! With hook up (often a set fee, ensure this before using lots of electricity lol) a low wattage fan heater and a rotary hanging airer with cover, you can create your own drying room in the awning. Or you can use your in-van shower room as a drying room if it has the right set up with the blown air central heating. Please feel free to ask for any more detail

My all time favourite camp site for skiing is the one at Pralognan La Vanoise. The location is just so beautiful, on the edge on the Vanoise National Park, with a swimming pool and ice skating next door, but the skiing may be limited for the truly adventurous skier. It suited us with primary school age children.

For truly easy access to lots of skiing, I'd have to recommend the one at BSMaurice, easy up to Les Arcs by the funicular, and an easy drive to La Rosiere, or the Val D'Isere.

The easiest/most convenient tow is to Samoens http://www.camping-samoens.com/ We stayed there both before and after the cable car set up to Flaine was installed. I did not list in in my reply to the initial post because there is not as far as I know easy access to swimming. We only ever found one hotel/restaurant that allowed us to use their pool in Samoens.

I absolutely loved the freedom that came with hitching up the caravan and heading for where the snow looked best at any given time.

If you take your caravan there are things you need to consider which differ from summer camping, such as buckets for waste water that can be tipped out, but waste masters with a spout can not, and fresh water tanks need to be insulated etc etc ...

All potential difficulties of doing a ski holiday in a caravan can be overcome!

Very Happy
