Poster: A snowHead

Looking for feedback if my 11 year old can move up to an adult ski. Looking at the Volkl RTM 75 153 cm. Falls just above his nose weighs 95 lbs. Strong advanced skier who skis on and off the piste. Averages 30 -35 ski days per season in the Northeast.

oh ok. it was just the coaches there would have helped on the ski choice as they work with lots of kids of various ages. Worth having a look at one of the two clubs as it really improves skiing by going every week
From the little I know once you are over 10 the bindings are the same and it comes down to the stiffness of the ski and the sorts of conditions they are likely to ski. Some bindings are better for lighter skiers. I found glisshop website handy to look at the different binding descriptions

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

chrisb, By definition, every country has a Northeast. I would guess that somebody with a username of a place in New York state probably isn't a Geordie.
@Plattekill, Junior skis are quite a bit cheaper than adult ones. Your kid is still within the recommended weight range for junior skis, why switch to adult ones now ?

Honestly I don't know but I wouldn't buy them without him demoing. You don't mention his weight and I think that is very important here - I haven't skied rtm's but volkls are traditionally very robust/stiff skis and even with good technique I'd be concerned that your son might not have enough mass to bend them properly. My son is nearly 13, similar height but very slim, probably skis to a similar level - I'd be dubious about putting him on any adult skis that weren't softer than average. I'd expect those volkls are stiffer than average.

@Plattekill, I would question whether he's heavy enough. And you can probably get some nice junior race skis cheaper which would probably serve better?
