Poster: A snowHead

I thought I'd treat myself this Christmas & buy myself a new Leatherman as my son seems to have 'liberated' my old 'un.
The virtually non negotiable UK high street price for the Wave model is £79 & £18 for the Bit Kit which includes a no.3 pozi bit for binding screws. Online in the UK the best I could find was just over £80 for the two delivered.
I ended up buying from JB Distribution in Florida USA. Total price for the two was a bargain £50 including shipping & all charges. I paid by Paypal on the 23rd Dec & the goods arrived by Fedex on the 30th - pretty good service considering it was over Christmas.
If anyone's interested email Shana at Shopsalota@aol.com

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Nice one - I got mine from the States but got stung a little for an extra few quid customs and shipping fee - I think it was via UPS. Next time I'll get my American ex to post it from there - get some archery equipment the same way.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Just be careful where you take the leathermans, they have a locking blade. You need a reasonable excuse to carry one around in the UK i.e. you're a carpet fitter, if not then you could end up being locked up for the night and a day in court if you are found in possession.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Dan, Yup - but the locking aspect makes no difference to the 'reasonable excuse' part of the law. Any knife can fall foul of that. But for myself - most of my hobbies (hiking, climbing, mountain biking, shooting, fishing) often entail using much bigger knives than that; I sometimes carry my leatherman when working as a highways inspector out on the road networks as a good multitool comes in very handy. I wouldn't carry it to the pub afterwork - but there is a potential issue if I pop into a supermarket for lunch. Being inside a pouch, lanyard attached and then in a belt pack does make it obvious that it is being carried in a responsible manner.

Scarpa, you're right it doesn't as to the reasonable excuse but it then comes under a different legistation to deal with it rather than points and blades it can be delt with under offensive weapons. Carrying it the way you suggest in no way makes it obvious it's being carried in a responsible way, i'd leave it in the car to be on the safe side.
kevinrhead, that's a fantastic price, i know people who've paid a lot more than that!!

No it's not. I paid £50 for the Wave and the Bit Kit combined, fully inc of all shipping & charges etc. Yes Mini Tools do offer the best UK online price but at £66.99 for the Wave only & £81.98 with the Bit Kit it's waaaay more than I paid.
