Jamaican sled-dog team heads for Aviemore

If they hadn't previously formed a bobsleigh team - which first competed at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics and led to the movie 'Cool Runnings' - this story might be a little unbelievable.

But Jamaica is sending a sled-dog team to the Aviemore Sled Dog Rally later this month. The dogs are reported to be a mixture of labradors, rottweilers and mongrels from the streets. The team is based at the tour operator Chukka Caribbean Adventures and is sponsored by the multi-millionaire country music star Jimmy Buffet, and Bob Marley's record producer, Chris Blackwell.

when is the sled dog rally anyway. There is a severe lack of snow at the moment or does that not matter too much. HAd a look at the ptarmigan web cam and can't believe they are supposed to be opening it today for snowsports.

As far as I know the event is run with wheeled sleds when there's no snow.
