Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Organising Stag Do Weekend Skiing December 2015

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all,
Been asked to have a look at a ski weekend at the start of December 2015, has anyone any suggestions (possibly fri-,mon 4th - 7th Dec) ? We've done one previous to Val Thorens which worked out quite well (obviously expensive beer but plenty of options and snow was quite good) but the mountain air was amazing for curing the hangover! I appreciate that at that time of the season, the snow pretty much means its got to be somewhere with a glacier. As there will be 20 or so of us, the cheaper the better but its not much good if the beer is cheap but the resort has about 3 pubs to choose from as you can imagine. Has anyone any suggestions? My thoughts currently were either back to Val T or possibly Kaprun (any excuse for the 'hammering a nail into a block of wood' game!)?

Thanks in advance
Mat

Have a look at Solden, Austria. Its normally one of the first resorts to open cos its high. The town is quite lively with a couple of lap dancing clubs and the beer should be cheaper than VT, although I've no idea how busy or how much atmosphere there will be at that time of year.

You don't really need to restrict yourself to glaciers for snow in December (though it's a nice back up), however they probably are your best bet for a lively atmosphere at that time of year.

Sölden is a good shout, and maybe Ischgl?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Ischgl is the resort de choix for huge numbers of football-shirted Bavarian stags of course but in my experience, fri-mon for 20 seems unlikely even in early season unless there's no snow

I'd agree with @clarky999, suggestion of Sölden cracking skiing area and plenty of apres.

How much of Chamonix is open on average? I'd have a quick look at flight prices IME Geneva flights are plentiful and inexpensive.

Innsbruck is a short transfer for Sölden although if flights are cheaper/more choice Munich is circa 3 hours.

@Bene, iirc Chamonix official opening date was only Dec 15 this year and while we've had great skiing before earlier in December some seasons, not the last few years.

Certainly not something I'd bank on.

Mind you, if the skiing is tangential to the cause...

Even so, town hasn't really woken up till opening week.

Slovakia - best for cheap beer and 'traditional' stag activities
Austria - best for Apre but best Apre resorts full of blokes on the lash
VT and Tignes full of English
Is Suax still party central in the Alps?

+1 for Solden. Can't think of any other resort that's got sure snow and lap dancing in early December.

Im going to watch this thread with interest as just starting to think about organising mine for similar time, although may go for the end of the season rather than the start.
