Poster: A snowHead

So I've read quite a bit about La Grave and this winter one of my trips is out to L2A. A group of us are gonna get a guide and do a day snowboarding over there just wondering if anyone has done this before? (We have all got experience off piste and have done days with guides and avi training before, and have the necessary kit)

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

The only problem there may be access, at the moment there is no road to La Grave from L2A unless you ski over if the connection is open, this may change by winter if they have created the access road on the south bank of the Lac du Chambon, the normal road on the north bank has been shut since April due to a collapsed tunnel.......
Of course there are other routes to La Grave but these involve a big detour!

You'll need to Register first of course.

Cheers for the heads up, was planning to use the link if it's open.

Bear in mind you'll have a short day because it will be critical you make the link back over the top. A taxi back will probably be 5 hours or more and cost sufficient that you'll prefer to stay in LG overnight.

Yeah I know a few people who have been caught out in situations like that having to get a taxi back from la thuile to la ros.

I hadn't heard about that. So does that mean you cannot take the normal route from Grenoble Airport to La Grave?
Any idea which bit of tunnel? Does it affect the return for routes down to the road on skier's far left?
I would have thought the only time you couldn't ski over the top La Grave/Deux Alpes would be when the top drag lift either side is not running.

The tunnel at Lac du Chambon (D1091) has been closed since April, take a look on Google maps to see how it impacts travel from Lyon/Grenoble to La Grave/Serre Chevalier....
Until they resolve it, there are 2 options, go "over the top" to Modane and take the Frejus tunnel to approach via Briancon, or south to Gap, then up to Briancon, either way a lengthy detour...
Once in La Grave it won't affect the return from itineraries
