Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Anyone else have this problem with their ankles?

I have this happening now and it's not very pleasant. Would be keen to hear of any exercises or treatments that people found helped.

My ankles have been abused over the years (football most at fault) and i've had a clunking noise for a few years, but never this level of pain and discomfort before.

I think I aggravated it when skiing a steep slope that had ice interspersed with packs of powder a couple of weeks ago.

This is not common but should be familiar to a foot and ankle specialist.

It can be stabilised with surgery.

Hi Shoogly, mine settled with physio and choice of activities. Carrying heavy weights guaranteed an instant relapse ( bags of cement etc.). Skiing fine except through heavy powder with a lot of snow on top of the ski. My gait was looked at and muscle balance exercises / foot beds made.

Surgical option was sold as having a 50% relapse rate, so I didn't go for it.
1 year on occasional pain, 2 years on back running off road competitions, skiing off piste in all snows

Take the advice of a specialist. You should be able to see a sports physician on the NHS but may have to travel to a bigger centre.
