Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi All
Wonder if you can help me.
Planning on possibly driving from to Avoriaz this coming Saturday. We need to be in resort on Sunday so am looking for recommended places to stay overnight that would out us within say 2 hours of the resort to make the leg on the Sunday morning short.
Also has anyone any experience of parking at Avoriaz? Gather there are outdoor and covered parking areas on the edge of the village. Can you pre-book places in these or can you just turn up and find a spot to park?
Any advise most gratefully received.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Not sure what route you are taking. But we've overnighted in Bourg-en-Bresse before. Just on the edge of town there is the usual cluster of Campanile, Premiere Classe, Etap type places. If you want to be a little closer just search all those websites and see what they have.

There's a decent Fasthotel in Gex just before Geneva if you leave the motorway and take the shorter route through the Jura via Poligny. Looks about £36 for the night per room.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

highly recommended. But from Gex you'll either need a Swiss motorway vignette or scope out the non-motorway route. The Gex route brings you down into Ferney Voltaire, from which you can either head through Geneva town or (probably better) to St Julien en Genevois then onto the French A40. A map and a competent navigator will help loss of temper......

@Griggs, Early Sunday morning it should be quiet and easy to follow signs to Le Lac (go downhill if in doubt) continue along the road with the lake on the left until you cross the bridge at the end then you should see signs for Chamonix/Mt Blanc which will head you out in the right direction for the French motorway without needing the vignette.

yes - I'm sure it will, come to think of it. Easier than St Julien. And you see a little bit of Geneva and the lake.
The Jura route is much more interesting than the motorway as well as cheaper and only a very little longer (in time). Not so much if you do it in the dark, I suppose.
When do you get access to your accommodation in Avoriaz? Do you plan to "ski from the car" on Sunday?
