Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Marmot gear - Yay or Nay

I live out on the West Coast of Ireland - not too many ski/snowboard shops out here, so a lot of my shopping is online. Having recently bought some Pyua kit which I'm really not getting on with, I'm looking at a new jacket from Sportpursuit, the Marmot Randonee (http://www.sportpursuit.com/catalog/product/view/id/563381) which looks good. 3 layer Goretex and all the pockets and features seem to be pretty good to me.

As I understand it Marmot is quality kit, anyone got any experiences to confirm that, or otherwise? Any comments regarding fit, longevity or other info greatly appreciated.

Big yay here....
Solid gore-tex kit, and usually at a decent price (for high end kit)

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Ha, glad to read the replies - I pulled the trigger on some new Marmot salopettes from Sportpursuit earlier today, on the basis I was pretty sure they were quality. Always get them slightly confused with Mammut though!

Marmot is very good gear have quite a few items for walking and is one of the few brands I know I can trust as not yet had a single duff item. Not cheap normally so used to buy mine either at Cotswolds rockbottom or online.

Definitely a good choice buying Marmot especially when on sale.

@rogg, we are in Vermont this week where it is cold - minus 18C today at the top and I noticed on a couple of our warming up sessions inside today that quite a few jackets are Marmot, so if they think they are good enough here then that might be helpful.

Although I would add that I'm not overly impressed at the waterproof qualities of my Marmot Goretex pro salopettes. On a wet day they leak far more than my ME Jacket. They are a few years old which I guess could explain things (but so is the jacket).

Thanks for the info chaps (and chapesses).

Jacket on order. Half Price, so happy with the price.

@Pamski, off to Revelstoke/Banff mid feb so I think it might be a bit chilly. I'm going to pack my Patagonia with it's down liner too! snowHead

hi Rogg, how did you find the randonee jacket? Was it flexible and soft or stiff and crisp bag like? snowHead

Sack the Juggler, I think it's been more than a few years since gore-tex was like a creep bag. Even the 3-layer pro is nice and flexible these days.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

The jacket's great, not a soft-shell, but sturdy enough feeling. I like it, but best if you can get hands on with one if you can.

I've got some marmot lifty gloves - they are amazing. Warm and comfy and very very robust. Not too expensive either. My wife has the freerider salopettes and loves them. Use and abuse sport pursuit for all its worth. (I've got penguin hardshell jacket and trousers - again from sportpursuit. Unbelievably waterproof and very comfy. If that comes up again I'd recommend)

best gloves I had were marmot and some of the other gear I have is good as well. however recently bought a marmot skypilot jacket and it is less than impressive. it's quite clear that it is a cost saving exercise and there is a lot of detail that is missing that should be expected. a lazy product with a high price tag. fortunately I bought my one in a sale, but if I had paid full price I'd be even less happy with it
