Poster: A snowHead

Having bruised my ribs on 3 out of the last 5 snowboarding trips, which take weeks to heal, decided it was time for some armour.
Too old to 'man up'
Does anyone have any recommendations?
I've found that either all the padding is directly at the front of the ribcage (sternum) but nothing on the side; or the alternative - just a bit of side padding.
Figure it should prob also include a back protector - if I'm wearing something anyway.

jayj, I imagine that the protective gear worn by stunt people may be the answer, especially gear using D3O that is very good at absorbing impact.

Although don't discount sternum protection if your torso regularly gets banged around. I once damaged my sternum doing extreme abdominal exercises during pilates. It took months to heal and breathing/laughing/coughing/moving hurt like the blazes.

Look for MX off-road armour.
Or as @stewart woodward says, a pair of skis.

@jayj, how did you bruise your ribs? You evolved them to be your protection, not to require them to be protected

@under a new name and as protection for the underlying organs, they sometimes take some knocks.
OP, I can't see rib protection being of much use for snowboarding. Great for mountain-biking, where there are lots of hard/pointy objects to make even a small crash potentially very painful, or MX where you're protecting against the stones being flung up by the wheels of the bike in front, but for snowboarding, where you're trying to protect against a heavy impact of the full body, not much use.
I have a 661 Pressure suit for Mountain Biking, which I also use for racing SBX (mostly for the spine protection), but I wouldn't use it otherwise for snowboarding. Strongly considering replacing it with a simple back protector even for SBX.

@stevomcd, yeah I've broken 2 and bruised the intercostals, which is significantly nastier.
