Poster: A snowHead

First time here. Quick report. The village is just about snow free. More open today after yesterday's high winds but a bit of a slush fest. Actually getting towards porridge. A great pity. Skiing very restricted. Lauborhorn apparently not in danger or so says the hotel owner!

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Guessing as much. Was going to go skiing this weekend but saw the writing on the wall and took kids to Zurich zoo instead. African Savannah animals seemed quite happy basking in 15c sunshine.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Village is white again. But only about 6-8cm. A little more up top. papering over the cracks. Hope for a bit more later.

im out there in a few weeks time so hopefully loads of snow will arrive soon. Any ideas on what I can expect to pay for a pint lager/beer in the bars/hotels? Heard it's not cheap!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@rizzotherock, you heard right but it can vary widely. On average I reckon 3v type pricing but am open to debate

@rizzotherock, I believe Rock's Bar on the main street are doing Swiss Rugenbrau/Feldschlossen lager type beer for about 6 CHF. I see from their facebook page that this season they also have Old Speckled Hen (sorry don't know the price).

Not sure if that is a warning or endorsement

Thanks for the info, I take it the 6chf is for a pint, if so I can live with that!

7 or 8 CHF generally for a pint
Back in UK. Bit of fresh in sheltered areas yesterday. Anywhere exposed new snow was blown off. village green again. More snow due over weekend. A foot? Lauberhorn downhill moved to Sunday as a result-cancellation possible.
In same hotel as US team - Bode Miller, Ted Ligety et al. Very open lot. One of coaches said not sure if Miller would take part if it was on as he continues his recuperation. Kiddies playroom changed into their gym for the week.
Over 12 days well over half the runs in the 3 resorts have been closed. SCGB piste reports hopelessly optimistic. Some runs in bad state.
Snow in the next week should improve matters for those going in few weeks.

@davidthornton, Personally I like either Rocks Bar http://www.rocksbarwengen.ch/ or the Pickel Bar (now run by an English long time Wengen resident Jeremy), both on the main street. I think the Pickel Bar only opens after 4pm.
More info on Wengen bars here
P.S I'll be out there next week (well actually staying in Lauterbrunnen), but if you're there as well we could meet up for an apres ski beer in Wengen!
