Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Companion to fire iridium lens for lower light

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I'm looking for suggestions of which oakley lens to go with fire iridium but to cover lower light situations.

From what I've read HI yellow is the best for very low light but you get blinded if the sun comes back, so I'm interested if there's anything that does a good comprise and doesn't overlap too much with fire iridium.

I've gone hi yellow, it's bright in the sun behind them, but not as dazzling as people make out. If not, go persimmon. Cheaper than hi-yellow and blocks more light, but not as good in low light conditions. Personally I think Iridium and hi yellow is a great combo...

I have hi yellow/fire iridium combo. I'm OK in the Hi yellow if the sun occasionally peeks through cloud but if the cloud clears and I can see any blue sky it's back to the iridiums. I carry a rucksack between me and OH, so carrying the other set is no bother.

If I could only have one pair and I had the choose in the morning I'd probably have persimmon instead but I do find they yellow much better in conditions for which it was designed. It certainly isn't as bad for me as people make out, and I find my contacts tend to make me more light sensitive.

Yes, very good.

With the Hi Yellow you will be asked to lead the group when the light gets flat (my experience anyway).

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Hi yellow for me too. If the light is variable then I stick to the fire iridium. Only hi yellow for prolonged ( ie between coffee stops ) periods of flat light. Toofy Grin

Hi persimmon covers a very wide range.

Having used my Prizm Rose lens a couple of weeks ago in mixed conditions I'd suggest that if you can get hold of one.

Ah - interesting to hear real world reports on the prizm! I'd trying to decide if I'll need to get to take 2 sets of lens/goggle out or if it's possible to make a call in the morning and just wear one that will cover most stuff.

Would rose prizm or permission work all day without the need to change - assuming it's not bright sunshine from sunrise?

@zebedee, I wanted to try the Jade Prizm but couldn't get hold of one for my Airbrakes so 'borrowed' my wife's Crowbars for which we had a Rose Prizm lens. I have to say after the initial shock of everything looking very pink they worked very well on a couple of snowy days in all but very flat conditions. Not sure if I'd want to risk them if it was likely to get brighter, having said that I normally use HI Persimmon for everything but the brightest days. The Prizm lenses have obviously sold very well and Oakley are expanding the range for next winter.

Before I bought the Canopys, I was wearing an old A-frame fixed lens goggle with the Persimmon lens in it in all conditions and TBH it was a great lens for all but the upper and lower 10-15% of conditions. If I had to choose a single lens, i'd probably choose persimmon...

I used the Rose Prizm on my last trip, generally was very impressed, a few thoughts-

- When I first put them on at the top of a run I thought I had mad a terrible mistake, everything was SO pink!! It was only when I got to the bottom that I realised nothing looked that pink anymore! Your eyes seem to adapt really well, and within a minute or so of wearing them everything seemed fairly normal colours again. Quite weird at first, you can actually notice the colour change if you put them on at the bottom of a lift, as you go up! So basically the pink isn't a problem!

- In flat light the definition is very good, certainly better than with them off! It isn't perhaps the miracle fix that the posters would suggest, but it is very good

- The sun did pop its head out a few times when I had them on, and it wasnt a problem, not full on blue skies though so Im not sure that would be the same situation

Overall I was very impressed, and after the first day I only brought them with me on the basis of how the sky looked in the morning.

As an aside the ones I got are the new flight decks, very comfortable and great view (NB I do have a pretty big head tho!)
