The time has unfortunately come where I will need to ski half term in 2016 due to eldest having GCSEs after many years of skiing March and April during Easter holidays.
Thinking of Italy as I suspect it will be less crowded than France.
Anyone got any recommendations for accommodation, preferably catered and the kids would love a pool but without breaking the bank.
I reckon we do easter for about Euro 3,000 for four inc half board and lift passes but excluding travel.

@kitenski, on another thread we are discussing the Albergo Frohsinn in San Cassiano (Mountainsun). It's sat right on the piste, near everything. It's unusual to find something so "ski in/out". Some of the people I was with on the Birthday Bash last week had stayed there and said it was fine (and better than their place in Tignes) and it's good value. No pool but maybe there's one in the resort.
I'd certainly try to avoid France at half term especially if, as this year, it coincides with Paris holidays.

Actually I saw lots of lovely looking hotels right next to the pistes around the Dolomites but some of them looked rather pricey!

We skied Champoluc/Monterosa on Saturday (7.2.2015) being first day of French, Italian and Swiss half term.
Now, it is transfer day so we didn't expect any particular issues, and hardly queued at all across the system. Town was noticeably busier Saturday vs Friday night. However, Sunday morning, despite the only run open being the descent into town (high winds closed everything else) we only queued about 30 minutes to get up the first gondola.
All that said, due high winds we relocated to Chamonix valley (chum was departing GVA last night so wee needed to be this side of the tunnel at some point) and despite the wrong choices 1. as parking was a nightmare at around 14:00 and probably was all day, and 2. we went down to Les Houches hoping for a better lunch than up Brevent (classic fail. Possibly the worst tartiflette in the alps, self service Col de Voza) we had a very pleasant couple of hours hooning around with hardly a queue, other than for lift pass and for the Prarion bubble.
tl/dr - recent years suggest that half term and vacances scolaires are generally not quite the nightmare of 20 years ago. Presumably better uplift makes the difference. Although Italy is generally quieter and better value for money anyway.

@under a new name, have skied off piste in Alagna/Gressoney so Champoluc would be a good option, any recommended accomodation?

@kitenski, if you don't want to diy, talk to www.ski-2.co.uk, they run a high service operation and really do seem to make it work well.
Otherwise, our chums were in the Relais de Glaciers. It's 4* but they thought it was a bit "tired" (surprising as it's not terribly old), at least one of them had a noisy room and the food didn't live up to the rating. Their group include well travelled, some former high end chalet hosts and a chalet management specialist, so not as though they don't know a bit about hospitality.
The Breithorn has apparently been taken by Ski Total. No idea how that's working out.
The Castor is owned/run by friends of ours.
A little out of town the Petit Tournalin looks nice.
Totally out of town all of Mascognaz, Rascard Frantze and l'Aroula look fun. There may also be a newly renovated hotel just at the top of the Crest bubble, no idea what the target completion is. And there's one just above it whose name I completely forget. All of these latter are somewhere up the mountain.
We may have an apartment but we're not sure if we're renting it out next season.

We stayed at the Breithorn a couple of years ago before it was taken by Ski Total - it would be good to hear reports of what it is like now. I loved it - but then stick me in a hotel in most places and I enjoy it as we self-cater in our own place most of the winter - the food was very good, but far too much and I kept dropping a course as the nights went on, the staff were lovely, the room was a touch small but that didn't matter.

About 3 years ago spent Feb half term in Folgarida , none of the hotels were ski in/out , but only 2 minutes in the hotel minibus to the gondola, our hotel didn't have a pool, but I believe that other hotels did. We never came across any queue in the whole week that was worth mentioning, last year Feb half term we skied Madonna Di Campiglio, once again no pool in our hotel . but the other hotel that we could have chosen did have a pool
Both hotels were only a few minutes walk to the first lift . We paid around £1000 per person, which included
Flights, transfers , half board , lift pass , and ski/boot hire

We went with www.brentaski.com, formery known as folgarida .co.uk one of their ski instructors (Wayne) used to post on the board
and we bumped into him during happy hour in the only bar in Folgarida
