Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Best place to ski early April for beginner \ intermediate with snow in Europe?

Hi

I have been skiing around 3/4 times over the past ~7 years so I am a beginner\intermediate at best. However, I am going with my GF who has never skied.

We are looking to go somewhere in Europe in the first few weeks of April. The things I am looking for are:

- Good snow in early April
- Good slopes for beginners to intermediate and maybe something a little tougher at the end of the week if we do well Smile
- Easy to "get about"
- Fun nightlife (we are early 30s)
- Good resort with good accommodation options (5* or a chalet)
- Ideally local airport so not a huge transfer

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Smile

You should add "excellent ski school" to that list of requirements. wink
Val Thorens would be one suggestion - though it's pricey, the snow should be good.

5* hotels are putting you on the very expensive resort list such as San Martino di Castrozza, Cortina, Zermat etc. At the time you are planning to go I would imagine Zermat and St. Moritz would be the places to head for. Personally I would lower the accommodation requirement and go somewhere like Val Thorens or Tignes

It might not be the same as a five star hotel in Cortina, but if you want fancy accommodation in those resorts I'm sure it can be found! Have a look at Supertravel Ski, Sawday's or the luxury section on chaletfinder. There must be loads of others too.

Obertauern could fit the bill, lively après in and around the resort, some lovely piste skiing for all abilities, nice hotels and transfer time from Salzburg little over an hour.
