Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

After last years fantastic skiing in alpine conditions, I now have an overly romantic view of Glencoe, so I'm heading up again next week.

I'll be there from Mon 16th for 3 or 4 days, if anyone from here wants to say hello.

Glad to hear it, hope they stay like that (at least a little while longer)!

Best thing to do is pray to the mountain gods @d - you just can't bank on booking that far in advance in Scotland Confused. I think I read that, historically, that the ski areas are stormbound about one day in eight - but it does seem to be more than that these days. Fingers crossed for your trip.

Have you been to Nevis Range? Definitely worth a look if you are in the west - especially if snow cover is anything like it is at the moment.

Hi, I've only been to Cairngorms and Glencoe in Scotland.
I might go for a day at the Nevis range this time for a change. Is the snow better there?

I'm staying near Glencoe but it doesn't look too far.

Nevis is 45mins (40 of which feature world class scenery, 5 feature Fort William) drive away from Glencoe ski area. Its almost never busy and a great area to ski. Best infrastructure and least queues in Scotland. Back Corries awe inspiring. 1 min walk/pole from top of summit lift. Scenery at least as good as Glencoe, views down Loch Eil and over CMD to Northern Corries of the Ben fantastic. Skiing very good too. Goose gully into Allt Schnechda to base of Quad Chair. Along Lemming Ridge, or Switch, down Nid Ridge, into Corrie Dubh wherever you fancy and down to Rob Roy. Both usually sublime. Higher the better into Coire Dubh if you've some company. More shelter from North/Northwest winds but Glencoe a safer bet if wind a Southeasterly.

Wow, great post thanks. You've convinced me, I'll give it a go.

Looking like great conditions up there at the moment, I just hope it can hold out another week. I've seen first hand how quickly it can turn though, as have the people queuing for the T-bar whose heads I literally flew over during a whiteout in the Cairngorms 30 years ago...
