Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Off to La Plagne 1800 today with ski beat...on my own Sad let down by friends I though "f*** it I'm going anyway! "

Staying in a chalet with two other solo skiers whom I'm yet to meet. Exciting and scary at the same time. Be nice to meet any other snowHeads on my trip.

I'm an intermediate boarder looking for some (snow) thrills!

I did the same last year, mates were all in and coming, one by one dropped out as the booking date (late deal job so the week before departure) loomed. In the end I thought the same and went. Has a great time, met some nice folk boarded and skied to my hearts content. Came one and the lads were all regretting their decision......

Shimmy Alcott, Toofy Grin Toofy Grin you'll never be alone wink

Richienotsorich, I've done this the year SWMBO broke her ankle and couldn't go - had 2 weeks in Utah and Wyoming Madeye-Smiley and have to say I enjoyed it. Met loads of folks to ski with and socialise with. Made some really great people and on the back of this have a bed to use whenever we want to go to Jackson, as we are this year. Was also offered the use of a house at Squaw from a dentist.

Its not for everyone, but staying in a catered chalet will help - as dining alone isn't always great, and you will probably find some folks to share slope time. Just go and have a great time.

I went on my own for three nights a few years ago to Les Menuires - couldn't afford to take the whole family and it was my trade-off for my husband getting some nice work jollies later in the year for much longer. Stayed in a catered chalet with a few others - one couple and two single people there separately - aside from the couple we were all strangers.

It was absolutely fine. As I had my own room I could retreat there if needs be and the other people were all perfectly pleasant and we had nice chats around the dinner table.

I am a woman and had never travelled on my own before (nor been skiing for ten years at the time either!) so I was a little nervous, but hey - snow! That makes it all worth it. There was nothing to be worried about at all as it turned out!

And Shimmy - the peace and quiet.. oh my goodness. Priceless. I didn't even miss them (I had three at the time!) I was enjoying the time off so much!

Have fun!

I would enjoy going on my own too. My ski buddies (not to mention my wife) would think it a bit strange.

We went to Plagne 1800 last year with Ski Beat (group of 10 of us) & there was a guy on his own. His OH wasn't as keen as hime, she went once a year but lways to the same place & so he went on a 2nd one on his own. He was a really nice chap & don't think he felt excluded by us in a large group Toofy Grin
Have a great time

I've been on ski holidays on my own several times and always had a good time. Usually meet one or two people on the slopes to ski with for a few hours or ski with others if staying in a chalet. In the past have used the TO's ski hosting service to meet other lone skiers. The local bar is often a good place to meet solo skiers. I suppose it all depends on your personality an introvert might either enjoy the being alone or conversely find it difficult to find others to ski with.

I'm sure you'll have a good time and if all else fails book a lesson.

I was left with no one to head away with a couple of years ago. When the snow started falling I had to have a trip. I Came across a company called Adventure Bash http://www.adventurebash.com who run holidays for single travellers or small groups. I was worried about a holiday with strangers but was just glad to be getting to the snow. Ended up having an amazing week and meet some great people who have went on to become good friends.

there's now a large group of us that head away with adventurebash or organise our own trips every year.

I'd recomend anyone who is left without a group to give going it alone a go.
