What's the best ski based advice you've ever been given?
Mine - Always get your own boots and make sure they are fitted.
After weeks of hiring boots, I started to think them hurting after half a day was normal - until I went and bought some in the UK in store and had a proper 1.5 hour fitting session. Best decision ever.

"S**g not s**t"
Was the best advice I have ever been given.
I used to be too much in the back seat and suffered horrendous thigh burn.
Then during a private lesson above Chamonix a very well known Scottish lady instructor dispensed the above pearl of wisdom and ever since then I keep my weight further forward and hardly ever get thigh burn nowadays.

Commit to the fall line - the steeper the slope, the more you need to commit.
Follow that basic rule and half the job is done.

It was actually for wave surfing as a beginner trying to get clean, balanced pop-ups, but it applies to snow-boarding, skiing, driving.. in fact most things apart from sky-diving : "Dont look down". By looking ahead you get better balance, and your body will tend to go where you are looking. This is true for snowboarding, motorcycling, surfung etc... Also you crash into fewer things.

Agreed.
Where you look is where you'll end up.
For instance - when skiing in trees. Don't look at the trees, look at the gaps.

You are nowhere near your limit until you start falling over.
What's the point skiing like that in a helmet, you're never going to land on your head if you don't try.

+1
It's taken me a long time to actually 'feel the force' as it were. The guy who showed me this took duck tape onto my goggles and left me just a narrow slit to look through. Forced me to to look up and out and let my short term memory and a relaxed stance take care of the problems under my feet as I 'recorded' the terain 50m ahead of me. It was a HUGE breakthrough for me. Fewer falls, MUCH more relaxed, less fatigue . . . and most importantly . . . SO MUCH MORE FUN!!!!!

Bloody hell Masque, haven't seen you'round these parts for a while. The duct tape thing sounds diabolically cruel but makes sense (horizontal slit, one presumes).

@Zero_G, been busy flower, getting plumbing seen to and new eyeballs . . . now trying to do summat re the Yard O'Lard roun't middle. The duct tape (horizontal) really works in accentuating the bad habits and provides feedback to the victim . . . yep, victim . . . but then I'd rather have a steep learning curve to climb than a soft slope to mediocraty.
