Poster: A snowHead

Just got back today from leading a SCGB holiday with 3 local guides in Grimentz, wow
Beautiful family type Swiss resort with very few skiers around, bags of off-piste either lift-served or a short hike away for massive descents!
No wonder this is a little promoted secret, it's an absolute gem, by the end of the week we had thigh-deep powder and fresh tracks where ever we chose, class!!!

Just sharing guys, no need to get precious! It would take more than a few Snowheads for this little slice of heaven to get remotely "busy"

@KenX, I was just kidding. It is a great area. I stayed on the Zinal side and liked it so much I went back in summer for hiking. For a long time Lech held my top resort spot, but Zinal now has that honour. For balance, it's not somewhere I'd take a nervous intermediate or anyone not fond of steep drags/fast chairs, and I didn't think much of the on-mountain restaurant options. In town the food was great and very reasonably priced.

@Gämsbock, We skied mainly on the Grimentz side as it was snowing all week and needed the viz, Zinal is mostly open....
Spent a day in Chandolin/St Luc and ended up skiing over the Bella Tolla pass and down into the Turtmantal on the German speaking side and took a minibus back to Grimentz, 1 1/2 hours...........
Did several runs down to St Jean also which was awesome

@KenX, sounds quite similar to what we did, thought I wish I'd written it down as I can't remember all the details (and it was only last year). We definitely spent a day over in Chandolin/St Luc, did the summit of Bella Tola and skied around there - can't remember exactly where, but not down to Turtmantal. We also went over the top from Zinal and skied down past the Moiry dam and back into Grimentz. And we had two days out in Arolla/Cabane de Dix. But there was so much more! Look forward to meeting you on the SOPiB2015.

@KenX, I bought a place there in 2011, having skied pretty well all over. The trigger for me buying was the new lift to Zinal being announced (mixed feelings on it in terms of allowing many to see what is skiable and the trade off in terms of the conservation area). Since then we have had the Lex Koller second homes law, CHF strengthening and fairly significant new building. I still love the place. I rent my place out and this year, for the first time, I have half UK renters. In previous years it was mainly Swiss, French, Dutch etc.
In short, I agree with you.
IMHO it is a place every keen offpiste skier must ski at least once.

I was actually really surprised to hear so many English voices on the slopes, not many were heard off-piste tho.............

You know it makes sense.

There are an increasing number of english speakers on the slopes in the last 10 years or so that we've been going. Mountaintracks and Mountain Heaven are both UK based companies offering customers skiing in the valley. Eagle Ski Club and SCGB run off-piste weeks there too.
@Gämsbock,It is a brilliant summer holiday destination, in fact I probably prefer it!
@chrisJersey, It's an easy place to fall in love with.
