Anyone had ACL/MCL surgery in Austria? If so how much did it cost for private care?
I'm at a clinic in Innsbruck and wondered if any Snowheads had any idea of private costs here?
Thanks Jonny

@jonnyboy1, not quite the same but tibial plateau snd meniscus surgery with 5 nights in the clinic and associated costs e.g. X rays, CT scan, tests, brace, crutches, meds...pain relief..antibiotics. ..heparin, surgical stockings, ice pack, ambulance to the airport etc was about €5000. My insurance covered it all but the clinic was pleasantly surprised that the insurance agreed as in their experience UK Insurance companies send folk to the public hospital after initial care. I needed urgent surgery and the surgeon said I should not be moved due to the severity of the injury so Snowcard agreed to private treatment.
If you don't have insurance you can expect to see, and ask for, an itemised written quotation to set out every charge. I think there was at least 5 people to pay for in the theatre when I had my op...2 surgeons, anetheatist, nurses.
Interestingly, IIRC Jonathan Bell, a knee surgeon on here, does not advocate immediate ACL surgery. I also damaged my MCL and surgery was not recommended for me due to poor outcomes....All injuries are different of course. You might want to do a search to see what see he says to help inform you further.
Good luck

Come back to England and see your local specialist.
Ask the Austrians how they intend to deal with the follow up ( a vital component of surgery) and if there are problems from surgery. Who will direct your rehab?
They wouldn't dream of operating on you in Italy or France for this injury.
I saw one patient who was offered a special Tshirt from a clinic in Austria if she agreed to surgery. The logo was "under the knife for a better life", the Cd ( MRI ) had printed on it "forget cocaine fly S****K air, it was apparent he owned the helicopter service aswell. There is quite alot of this going on specifically in Austria>
Need i say more
