David Goldsmith, can it really be nearly 25 years since Konrad's "1st runner up"? High time we podiumed again. Sadly I'll have to watch the race from St Anton.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Can't remember the year, John (and I'm feeling truly ancient now) but Nick Fellows promised on last week's Channel 4 show that Konrad would explain why he didn't win it - on this week's show!

Having now checked the latter - yes - 24 years - it was 13 December 1981 - the day a British racer (a downhiller in this instance) gained the highest-ever placing in a World Cup event.

Reports and results of today's downhill at Val Gardena:
BBC Sport ... Ski Racing
The start was delayed by fairly wild conditions: "snowdrifts, winds and poor visibility on a shortened course" according to Ski Racing.

Plus reports from our man on the spot, Racer Ready's Neil McQuoid, at both men's events over the weekend, Val Gardena and Alta Badia...
Next RV for the men's technical races (GS and slalom) in Kranjska Gora (Slovenia) Wednesday and Thursday, and the women on the same days in the Czech Republic, at Spindleruv Mlyn (try pronouncing that while eating a packet of peanuts....)
The women are doing a slalom on Wednesday and a GS on Thursday, and while sole Brit Finlay Mickel has finished his pre-Christmas race programme, Chemmy will definitely be doing the GS on Thursday and possibly the slalom as well...

Paul Mason, as the forum's tipster and expert on flat racing, I'll let you judge!

Paul Mason, there are enough flats in it for it to become quite toothless in new snow, especially from the lower start.
