Has anyone any recommendations for skiing / adventure books?
I like reading adventure books and have read quite a few trail running / general adventure ones, but wondered I've not really come across many skiing ones.

I've tried quite a few over the years and never really come up trumps, other than 'Skiing Around The World' by Jimmy Petterson, which I really enjoyed. That said, it's not easy to come by - ever since reading it I've occasionally tried to get another copy as I want to give it as a birthday present to a skiing mate of mine, but I assume it's out of print as it never seems to appear on any of the usual book sites other than 2nd hand.
Anyway, good luck. I'll be interested in any other books that come out of this thread...

A book I have really enjoyed was "Mountain Memories", by Mick Hull. Probably of limited interest to people outside Australia because it traces his experiences as a skier in Australia from the early 1930s to the 1980s. The included photos are "priceless".
There is however a fair bit in it on Zurs, which became Mick's regular European, destination.

Daleybou1234, Yes that's the one but I think it's 2nd hand from the USA. It is indeed A4 and 440 pages - a bit of a beast, but about half and half pictures/writing. If it's something you want you might be better off putting your hand up for a copy from under a new name as well.
under a new name,, that sounds great, many thanks. It is almost a year until mate's birthday now, but that's no problem. If you have a copy going spare then I'd happily take one off your hands and keep it in hand until his birthday comes around again...

Bit off topic, but the Fergus Fleming book "Killing Dragons: The conquest of the Alps" was rather good IMHO. All about the early days of climbing in the Alps, and how no man should undertake a climb without at least 6 casks of brandy, a brace of roasted game hens and heavily armed porters to deal with all the mythical beasts that dwell in the high mountains.

Skiing around the world is the best book I have come across. Good stories from all the places he visits and the Alagna chapter stands out! Meeting some of these people after reading about them in the book is surreal!

@speed098, I thought Another Long Day On The Piste was distinctly average to be honest. I'd keep your money in your pocket on that one if I were you. In a similar way, I have War & Piste but haven't read it, probably never will as I fear it is awful. No idea why I ever bought it...!

speed098, no problem. Have you read Rough Ride by Paul Kimmage? Like you, I've read a few cycling books and whilst it was a while ago and I don't remember much about it, I do remember it being worth a read.
That Flanagan's Run sounds interesting. I've added it to the wish list - but is it worthwhile for a non-runner?

Not read Paul's book yet but it is on my to read list.
It is one of the books on a list I have given to relatives to buy me for birthday or xmas, was hoping as it was near the top I would have it by now but hey they have bought me the tour map book, climbs of the tour plus a few other great tour books not to mention most of the available dvd's
