Hello,
We're flying from Edinburgh to Grenoble this Saturday for a week in Alpe d'Huez. Looking forward to it immensely of course, but a little worried about the winds forecast for this weekend for Scotland.
It looks like gusts of 60mph are likely on Saturday morning are forecast, perhaps a little higher, along with heavy rain. Not really sure what to expect but is this likely to affect departures?
It's a DIY holiday so a late arrival in Grenoble could affect the transfer (Ben's Bus) at the other end.
On the plus side, tomorrow (Friday) morning looks even worse so glad we're not flying then.

@denfinella, a more informative title might get you better replies.
I was going to suggest cutting down on the sprouts.

Hi Definella,
For what it is worth we were delayed by high winds when flying out of Leeds Bradford in December and ended up being bussed to Manchester because winds too high here in Leeds. Result was a six hour delay. The forecast is for wild winds up your way, but I guess it will depends upon the local conditions (Leeds Bradford is notoriously windy). Best of luck with the trip.

@denfinella, If you go to the Tignes 2015 Snow report Thread thread tomorrow evening I put a forecast for the airports both in the UK and France. I have access to the airport forecasts and know enough about flying to give an appreciation of any likely problems. It will be there by about 1600UKtime. I only do it Fri and Sat cos it takes a bit of time.

@Ian Kenvyn, @chocksaway, thanks, that's good to know. We'll take a book or three. @chocksaway, I'll definitely check out the Tignes thread tomorrow, great!

Anything over 50-60 knots at the airport has implications as far as I recall the airbus a320 had a wind speed limit on opening the cargo doors, as long as the wind is down the runway and not a big crosswind then there should be no problems taking off, albeit a tad bumpy

Well that was a windy night in NE England (and I don't mean the sprout variety). We were only on the edge, so what it was like further north I don't want to imagine. If that's the wind forecast for the Alps this weekend then it's time to find a bar and watch the skiing on telly.

The TAF (Aviation forecast) for EDI is OK for tomorrow am. 20 gusting 32 knots so should be fine. A bit of snow forecast late morning as well
Destination is looking very normal.

Drove over to Edinburgh Airport from Ayrshire during last night for my youngest flight to Geneva at 0630 am. Weather on M8 horrendous and a journey that normally takes an hour took nearly 2 hours, however the flight left on time and arrived actually arrived early in Geneva due to high wind speeds. He said the flight was a bit bumpy with the gales but fine. I think you will be fine as the forecast is for reducing winds and colder weather in the morning. Enjoy your holiday.

I landed at EDI last night at around 21:00. It was very bumpy on the approach but the wind was blowing straight down the runway so no issues for the A319. As stated previously, only issue is likely to be if wind speed on the ramp is too high for safe working and opening doors or if the crosswinds are out of limits.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

@richards521, glad your son's flight went smoothly (well, you know what I mean). Bodes well for tomorrow! And thanks, we will
@Gaza, @martinm, @2planks, great, glad to hear that.
@NE1, Sunday looks breezy in the Alps but not as windy as it's been here!

Very strong winds across the manchester region early this morning. Didn't help with the driving rain smashing I got he window. Nothing better than lay in bed, with a brew and the howling wind and rain outside.
