Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Sole of foot issues-Gel insoles?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I have bought a great pair of boots, and they are comfy in everyway.

However, I have funny nerves in my feel due to an illness a few years ago, and after an hour or 2 of skiing, the ball of my foot feel numb, from the pressure of standing on them.

Now I have seem gel insoles, but would they make control worse?

Any views, good or bad are appreciated!

I have nerve damage too, either numbness or pins and needles. Gel inserts made mine worse, they are too thick and made my boots too tight.
I just wear the thinnest possible socks and loosen my buckles every lift so the boots are semi dangling away from my soles to ease the discomfort. 3 weeks before skiing I adjust my Gabapentin upwards to help with the discomfort. I don't know if you are on any meds for your nerve pain? Might be worth a chat with your doc?

I had issues with pain in the soles of my feet, after about 30 mins of skiing, I would get sharp, stabbing pains and just had to sit down to take the weight off which allowed the pain to ease and then I could often carry on all day OK. I suffer from flattish feet and weak arches.

I researched the subject and realised I was over-tightening the lower 2 latches (across the arch) and constricting the blood supply. These two latches should be used just enough to close the boot. I also replaced the hard felt standard insoles with some slightly more forgiving and supporting Iron Man gel insoles that are designed for athletics, they were a teensy bit more voluminous, mostly in the arch support area, but since I wasn't over-tightening those latches, it felt fine and I've had no recurrence of that burning pain since.

After advice from boot-fitters at Lockwoods, I also tried some of those expensive Superfeet insoles which have good arch support, but I found them very unforgiving underfoot, so I stick with my £10 Iron Man ones and I haven't noticed huge control issues.

Not sure if any of the above is scientific, just my experience.

I would suggest getting some custom fit insoles made.
This will allow your weight to be evenly distributed across the whole foot rather than just a few points.
