Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Breckenridge - Intermediate/Advanced Lessons???

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
The Fiance and I are off to Breckenridge in a few weeks and would like to take a lesson for a day while we are out there. We are solid intermediate skiers and fine on any groomed run but our mogul technique isn't the best and we are pretty poor powder skiers.

Has anyone been on the 'Adult Intermediate Ski Workshop" at Breckenridge? - basically a group lesson with a maximum of 4 in the class for intermediate and above skiers. It appears to be the only more advanced lesson they do other than eye wateringly expensive private lessons.

Also, would it be a really bad idea to take said lesson the day after arriving from the UK with regards to jet lag and adapting to the altitude etc?

Don't know about the course, but remember that Breck is at very high altitude and you may find it affects you for the first few days. I would build in a little acclimitization time if I were you....

@LT, I'd give yourselves at least one day to recover from the journey to get the best out of your lesson - drink lots and lots of water!
On the lesson side of things, I'd imagine Breckenridge is like most US resorts - they teach to the individual student within the group lesson and are set up so that they have more than one instructor assigned to that level of lesson so they can split the group if necessary. You should be asked what you want to work on, and the lesson will be tailored to your needs even with 4 of you in the group. However, don't be surprised if you and your fiance are split up!

Thanks @lynnecha and @skinanny, Yes, the more I think about it the more I agree. We will probably book the lesson for our 2nd full day of skiing.

That sounds great, @skinanny, just what I was hoping for, almost a private lesson within a group. It wouldn't be the end of the world if we were split up for the day but we are basically at the same level so hopefully won't be.

Do it second day. You'll be seriously winded first day doing anything and tired because odds are you won't get a great first night's sleep.

I was in Breck last year and went straight into lessons the day after I arrived with no problems at all.

We just eyeing up the possibility of a return towards the end of the season, its a great place.

Yes. Give yourself time to recover. I remember having headaches when waking up for the first few mornings. Some migth saw it was the booze but I'm putting it down to the altitude.

That's interesting @5pike, how did you find the lessons? We haven't had any other than in the fridge since we were beginners. Would you recommend them?

We're off on Friday and can't wait Toofy Grin

Had group lessons in Keystone last year, 3 days of attempting moguls. The lessons were cheaper at Keystone (we stayed in Breck and got the bus each day) there was a good offer for 3 days of lessons and they let us do one day to try it out then pay up the following day for the rest. They were just group lessons not the max 4 so were larger groups but the instruction was excellent and really enjoyable. Would book them again without hesitation. As said previously good individual feedback too, I skied with my partner and the instructor also showed us the faults to look out for in each others technique so we could prompt each other.I have had beginner lessons in europe years ago and well, they were pointless.

Lessons were fantastic, we were a group of 4 and managed to have an instructor to the 4 of us for 3 days. The ski school at Breck is supposed to be one of the best in colorado not that i have any experience of any of the others. We skied in the alps last year as well and my wife to an extra lesson there and she came away worse off afterwards saying it wasn't a patch on the lessons we had in Breck. I guess a lot of it comes down to the actual instructor their approach to teaching and how it works for you, and the general rapport you build with the instructor also. We socialised with our instructor too which I think also helped!
