Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

OTG goggles

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I thinks that it is finally time to bite the bullet and be able to see where I am skiing so I need a pair of OTG goggles, preferably that won't break the bank. I've had a look at the Decathlon web site and although they have OTG goggles, none appear to have the option for interchangeable lens. Any other ideas?

Anything with interchangable lenses and OTG is likely to be quite specialist. I use Oakley Canopys now, and they're very good - confortable, don't steam up, don't push your specs back onto your face, lots of different lenses; but not even remotely cheap.

I suggest forgetting the interchangable lenses, or buying 2 pairs of cheaper OTG goggles with fixed lenses.

Good idea, but from what I can see Decathlon only do OTG with S2 and S3 lenses although there is one with S1 lenses that looks suspiciously exactly like the OTG glasses from the photos.

Used for a couple of trips in all varieties of light with no problems at all.

It is rather important to be able to see. Actually when you wear your glasses you'll be surprised how much better the definition becomes. It's quite a revelation. When I finally succumbed it took me a long time to settle on a goggle that really worked in all conditions for long days. I tried standard OTGs and they were generally unable to cope in damp humid conditions or similarly when skiing really hard. I used an optical insert for a spell which was ok but finally spent a decent amount of money on the Smith Knowledge Turbo fan. I can use it without a problem in all conditions. I've had them about 4 years and taught in them for the last 2 which really tests them. The fan became intermittent at the end of last season so I've just splashed out on their Prophecy Turbo fan. They're a little smaller and I'm expecting several more seasons from them.

In my opinion, if your doing the odd week and only ski in good conditions then you may get away with a standard OTG but if you're skiing for long periods, in all conditions then it's worth spending a bit more on something that really works. All the latest clothing, skis, boots etc. are pretty superfluous if you can't see properly.

One of my concerns. I like to ski hard and although very physically fit I tend to sweat like a pig and my current decently quality non OTG (Smith's that cost $200 about 10 years ago) often have some issues because of it Sad

I've had no issues with the turbo fans even when doing silly exhausting exercises that make you melt.

@Tiffers,

I've got a big head and those fit me OK. Looking forward to trying them out at Christmas.
