Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Snow in Switzerland?! When to give up on Feldberg?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I have booked a lovely cheap holiday starting on 29th December to Feldberg, but the webcams are not looking good. I have looked at the weather (http://www.bergfex.com/liftverbund-feldberg/wetter/berg/), and to my untrained eye doesn't look brilliant. Can anyone on advise on how late I should bother waiting before I cancel my hotel and head somewhere snowier? I'm not sure how much I should rely on the forecast, and how to factor in artificial snowmaking etc? On one hand I need to change asap to get accommodation, but on the other I am reluctant to give up my free ski passes and cheap lessons! Although I knew I might have to make a last minute switch to Switzerland, (I am flying to Basel(, I didn't anticipate the snow being so poor there. If I should switch, any recommendations on where to go in Switzerland? The hotels are mainly booked up (esp for under £200 a night) - I have found somewhere near Lenzerheide - do you think that would be a safe bet? I prefer not to go as high as Zermatt etc as I have a baby (and a beginner child). Thanks as always for all the help.

Now the ski school in Feldberg has told me that they are 'a bit worried' and that 'it's not looking too good' - so think I am giving up on that idea. I have a hotel in Lenzerheide and one in Grachen - any comments on which would be better for beginners (and in terms of snow), would be great. thanks

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Feldberg has no snow at the moment. Temperatures in Basel are forecast to remain in double digits during the day (and relatively sunny) right up to Christmas eve so Feldberg for sure will be above freezing and any precipitation will surely fall as rain Sad Lenzerheide has the possibility to access the pistes at Arosa which, last I heard, are partially open. I have no experience of Grachen. I went up to Engelberg for a ski today and it was only possible to ski the Titlis area above 1800m (Trubsee up to the glacier). Good luck with whatever you decide. There is still time for the weather to change! Link to webcams at Feldberg is: http://www.liftverbund-feldberg.de/Webcams
