Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

La Villa 15th December

I'm in La Villa from Dec 15th to Dec 24th. Clearly the snow isn't looking too good there at the movement. Will have a hire car so how easy is it to drive to Arabba, Val Gardena or Cortina? May be better conditions there.

Do the roads tend to be clear in the winter or are there local buses linking the resorts?

Each of the journeys to those other resorts means crossing a mountain pass (1875m, 2136m, 2168m, respectively) which will be clear unless it's just snowed heavily in which case you won't need to be using it!! snowHead

There are various bus services in the area, some free to skiers, some paid, but they tend to link places that aren't linked by lifts and pistes.

Here is the skibus that links the villages of Pedraces & Piculin in the Alta Badia & Kronplatz ski areas:

SAD/Sudtirol Mobil run the public buses in S Tyrol:

Altitude will likely be the key to good snow. At least at La Villa you can get up to over 2100m on the Piz La Ila gondola...and download if necessary. They're usually pretty good at getting the main links open for Xmas with artificial snowmaking capacity which is second to none. But if there really is no snow, just apres at Moritzino's instead!!

I noticed last year that Kronplatz seems to run a longer season (at both ends) than many other places in the area, possibly because it's a smooth, grassy dome and they can get cannon coverage pretty easily? Anyway, if you can get to Pedraces, jump on the (free) Kronplatz bus and its about 20min to the Piculin. There's enough over there to keep you busy for a couple of days.

Snow above 2000m in the Val Gardena valley, but no skiing yet.
OP, fingers crossed, one good dump will get things going. There is snow forecast for this weekend.
Good luck. Madeye-Smiley

Thanks for the info guys, hopefully the cannons will have made enough snow to open the links to the other sella ronda resorts by the 16th.

If need be, however, which of Arabba, Selva or Cortina is the quickest to drive to?
