I'm going to be in Switzerland the weekend of the adelboden mens Gs and sl. Thinking of heading over for a day, probably the Saturday Gs. I have a few questions, hopefully someone who's been before can help out.
Which ticket to book? Having looked at the plan of the specator area the side of course areas don't look great. I'm thinking we really need to be in the grandstand for a good view, but its quite pricey. Also i assume it is necessary to book in advance rather than decide while I'm out there? Any advice would be greatly welcome.
Parking? looked at trains but very expensive and a very early start to get there, so will be driving from Zug, google reckons its about 2hrs. Where is best to park?
Most of the day will be taken up by the race i guess, but might try to get a few runs in, what does anyone recommend? (ski storage could be a problem?)
Lastly, après? Where is the place to be for a couple of pints from say 5-7pm? Is there anywhere we are likely to bump into a few of the racers? Would be funny to meet ted!;P

Never been to the Adleboden Race, but have been to the Wengen one, based on that experience I can tell you the following, firstly the place will be packed 10's of thousands of extra people come to Wngen for the races, car pars are packed out and public transport is bursting at the seams on race days, If google says two hours, in all honesty consider doubling that. Oh and finding a parking space nearby will likely be impossible, from a summer visit there I recall going via train to (I think) Frutigen and then Bus (there's no railway to Adleboden) If you have a car I'd advise driving to Interlaken or possibly Spiez (more car parks at Interlaken though) then taking the trains/bus but I'd still advocate going by rail all the way especially if you want a beer or two.

At Wengen I was incredibly lucky to be given a Gold pass which meant a good viewing area plus free food, but you have a couple of choices, if you want atmospherics just being in the cheaper finish area crowd will be good, but if you actually want to see whats going on paying for the stands will get you a view of the finish and probably a huge tv screen to see more of the race, otherwise you will simply be stood at the side of the course in a 5 to 10 deep crowd watching racers rush past. A good atmosphere but you see more on tv!
I'd not bother with skis, when the races finish everyone pours off the mountain and it is packed if you get any runs in it's likely to be just one and very crowded.
Get down to the prize giving after the race, there will be refreshment stands including bars and you might meet a racer or two if you are lucky, the best time though for meeting racers is pre the race days, in Wengen before the race its very easy to just walk into the stand area during practice and ask the racers for an autograph etc, most are happy to do so much to the delight of the local kids. There is likely to be a big party after the prize giving on Saturday running late into the night. Often racers go straight to their next event after races or have early nights (Unless they are called Bode in which case they may party till 2am before racing the next day)

Maybe the best one for seeing more of them after the events as that is probably the shortest journey to the next event all season? All but the very few GS only specialists will presumably ski at Wengen
Never been either but would love to go, the finish is always so exciting on that seemingly sheer face. One of the few races where they really aren't home until they're over the line.
The best part of the season for me is the three weeks from Adelboden to Wengen then Kitzbuhel and finally Schladming. Although I would think the Austrians will shade it overall the atmosphere at Adelboden and Wengen will be the best all season elsewhere?

@tomow92, Would agree with @D G Orf, I have been to the Kitzbuhel races a few times and public transport is the only sensible option. As for taking your skis it could be possible maybe by accessing the lift system elsewhere and skiing to the race area, just depends on local rules and logistics if thats allowed. It is at Kitzbuhel and is popular way of accessing viewing points further up the course.
I would think your best bet for facts is to email the organisers with your questions?

I'm thinking if we go for it then we'll forget skiing and go all in on the grandstand, will look into driving to interlaken/spiez, then train, then bus, it seems a good way to cut travel time and keep it cheapish.

Oh it's likely to be very noisy, cowbells, drums and brass bands bands all show up in Wenge for the Lauberhorn, stick clear of groups of cowbell ringers unless you have earplugs or you may feel like your head wants to explode Chances are that there will e a number of temporary buildings at the prize giving area with bars etc inside so you won't have far to go, make sure you note when the buses and trains go back
