Anyone used "ski school menuires"?
http://www.skischool-lesmenuires.com/
They appear to be apart of the ESF, possibly just those instructors who can speak english or who prefer to work with british skiiers?
It's a toss-up between them and Prosneige
http://menuires.prosneige.fr/english/ski-school/private-lessons.php
For a bit of background information, we're looking for an off-piste guide for a group of 6 british skiiers of varying abilities - with perhaps a bit of tuition thrown in where it seems one of us needs some pointers. Prosneige are asking for €420 for the day, Ski School Menuires just €330. Big difference! Perhaps even enough to justify two days if they'll do a better rate for two days

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

We did one a couple of off piste days with the ESF in Les Menuires a few years ago. We ended up with a great ski instructor and had a fantastic couple of days skiing, his name is Baptiste Jay, would totally recommend him if he is still there. We had tons of snow when we were there so he was a bit worried about avalanche risk. We skied fairly mellow slopes but we were still totally off the beaten tracks and would never have found the routes on our own, he took us through a forrest him and some friends had selectively pruned, not at the edges though so the trails weren't obvious

We had off piste lessons and guiding with Vincent Suchel from Skischool a couple of years ago. I think they are ESF in a different outfit, but set up for the english and non french speaking market (Vincent speaks Russian!). He's a real character: pocket sized with huge sideburns, keen on a mid morning pastis and equipped with the best home made Genepi you will ever taste. An off piste specialist, he seemed to enjoy his time with us and was excellent. Very good at managing our intermediate mixed middle aged/ late teen group and our various abilities and senses of adventure, The teenage boys in our group loved him and we went back for lessons and guiding with him a number of times over the season before last. (We had a rental property there for about 7 weeks).
He was suitably safety conscious and gave the reckless teens dressing downs if they needed a firm hand.
Thanks to Vincent's heavily accented english, we still shout out to each other "mind ze sterns" ("mind the stones") when every we are skiing near rocks-as that is what Vincent called them, even if they were the size of a sheep or small cow. He had us skiing over the front steps of the disused restaurant near the Becca chair, climbing up around a vertiginous rock face for one descent (eek! he called it a route "plus sportif"), and then a long afternoon and descent off the top of La Masse down to le Bettex. He had the ability to find untracked snow even in busy times, and showed us the best ways down over the pastures above St Martin- which you can do yourself safely once you know where you are going.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@Skipros, Salut claude! I would be happy to work with an independent, I did contact two but they were both unavailable. Having checked your website, you say you only take up to five people so our group of six may be too large for you anyway
In any case, the late arrival of snow means we're holding off booking anything for the moment. If you think you can sort six people out for a day or two's off piste guiding (with a little instruction) then I'd be happy to work with you - I don't think I actually got any lessons fro myou when I attended the EOSB in 2009 but I certainly recall seeing you around

@nbt, Hi, I'm still teaching in the 3 Valleys, skied today in Val Thorens.
Why up to five people? Because I've a very bad memory and I can't remember more than 5 names!!!!!
The best teaching is one to one ; then the quality is less because usually the students don't have the same expectations, the same level, ... Up to 5 is still quite good.
What I don't want to do is a big group of 10 or 12 people with young and old people in the same group, fast and slow, piste and off piste like I did when I was working with ski schools and that's because I am independent today. I like teaching and just guiding isn't what I prefer.
A group of 6 is perfect if you all have a similar level and similar expectations.
Thanks for the link with the picture.
