Poster: A snowHead
|
We have flights to Geneva, arriving on 18th Dec and really like the look of Les Contamines but we're struggling to find accommodation for 4 nights for just two of us. The lifts open on 19th which is ideal but the main hotels don't open until 20th. We're crossing over 2 weeks for apt rental so that avenue seems to be ruled out. Any advice? We wondered about staying down the valley in Les Houches or St Gervais but would rather be in the resort.
Should we wait until last minute for availability?

@JulesM, i suspect your problem is breaking into the xmas week.
Have you tried any of the hotel sites? E.g. Booking.com? A 2 minute search returned two hotels available, one looked like seriously good value.

Jules - as UANN says you are cutting in to the start of Xmas week - most places will be booked 20-27 already or at minimum won't want to risk losing a whole peak week.
It is an easy drive up from St Gervais so I'd look there as well (if you go further I'd suggest Salanches or Le Fayet rather than Les Houches which is a longer drive). Best bet is probably one of the apartment letting websites - you may find an owner who is not going out until 23 or 24 Dec so has a place empty before then.
We advertise our place in Les Contamines (booked already I'm afraid) on www.homeaway.co.uk.
That site is probably worth a look.

It might be worth looking on the Hauteluce (Belleville) side. A gondola and a chairlift take you up from Belleville to the Col de Joly. If all else fails the Ibis in Sallanches, maybe? You'll struggle to find accommodation in a ski resort for those dates. If you are not dead set on Les Contamines you could try the hotel "La Cascade" in Villard sur Doron and drive up to the Espace Diamant skiing (either Les Saisies or Bisanne 1500). They have spaces, according to this https://www.france-voyage.com/hotels-guide/hotel-villard-sur-doron-469744.htm#ancrooms
It's a nice welcoming place but you might struggle if you speak no French.

Thanks for all your help so far. We're still looking at options and will follow up the links posted. We don't fancy roughing it so the CaF is out. Hotel Chemenez looked great but doesn't open until 20th. St Gervais seems full too but we'll keep looking. We may abandon the idea of Les Contamines and start again. Anywhere we can get to from Geneva - by car or transfers- would be fine. Maybe back to La Thullie for the 5th time?!

How about Morzine or Les Gets? They're just over an hour away from Geneva airport.

@JulesM, left field, there's a charming hotel called something** Orangerie ** something in Sallanches. Easy drive to lots of places from there... May have space as not really a ski hotel.
