Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I have booked a week in steamboat and the a week in snowmass first 2 weeks of march and wanted to know if i am likely to hit any road issues when travelling between the 2 resorts. looking at google maps the route seems to be straight forward along the 131 I70 and then 82. is this the best route and are there any areas that would get blocked if there was bad weather?
I have done the journey of denver to steamboat before and there was discussion about 'rabbit ear pass' (i think that was the name) where there would be an issue if there was a storm but luckily the route was clear.
i have a US sat nav so will just plug the route in unless anyone advises otherwise.
thanks

Should be easy enough at least once you hit I70. Gleneiid Canyin csn get a bit icy but is speed restricted so no big deal.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Try to do the drive during the day if possible, it's an absolutely beautiful journey. Your route is fine as Dave says, they're really good at plowing roads there.

Our first ever driving in USA was from Denver to Steamboat late on Christmas Eve 1998. Car hire in Denver told us to go over Rabbit Ears pass. We left Denver about 10 pm having travelled all day. The plough teams had all decided to go home for Christmas as they couldn't imagine anyone would be out on the roads in the
blizzard
. We eventually got to Steamboat about 4am not having seen another vehicle. We did have a 4x4 but it was a hairy journey. So yes you can get over in bad weather, even without ploughs!!
