Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Maybe looking at Japan now instead of USA or Canada for a different culture and experience, not to mention the powder.
What i want to know is will the resorts be fully operational and very snowy by when we arrive 21st December to the 6th of January? I would like to ski some backcountry and Japan is supposed to be there with Alta but is it too early? And slo would like to know your tips for Japan in general, we would fly to tokyo and i don't particularly fancy catching an internal flight to sapporo for Niseko and Furano but i would i would think of it if they are remarkably better in you guys opinion. 2 hours from tokyo is Shiga Kogen and Hakuba with Shiga being the biggest in Asia! Where should we stay and where should we go basically...
Thanks

By the 21st, resorts should all be up and running, and the heavy snow should be falling. Whether all the off piste areas would be skiable would depend on the snowfall through November and early December, but you would definitely have enough places to find the powder.
The internal flight isn't really that much extra hassle, flying domestically is very simple. You could courier your bags direct from your Tokyo arrival airport to your accommodation. Hokkaido would probably have the best chance of decent snow at that stage of the season. But, the Nagano / Niigata ski areas are very accessible from Tokyo so you'd get more skiing time.
It will be busy over those dates in Niseko and the larger Honshu ski areas within striking distance of Tokyo.
