Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Christmas Day - Maria Alm

Can anyone recommend a restaurant for Christmas Day in Maria Alm. Ideally we would like a mountain restaurant at lunchtime but happy to go early evening in the village if recommended.

dking2001, get in touch with CraigJ as he has a place just up the valley at Hinterthal. He's not on here very often but a quick PM will grab his attention.

Christmas Day is not that special as the Austrians celebrate on Christmas Eve. What you call Christmas Day, is simply called First Day of Christmas (Erste Weihnachtstag) in Austria. Although a public holiday, it is a day families many use to travel to the resorts having spent the more important Christmas Eve with their families.

I can thoroughly recommend the Hochmaisalm (http://www.hochmaisalm.at ) above Hintherthal for an excellent meal having eaten there several times. They have a snow-cat for bringing guests up to the restaurant in the evenings.
