Looks like whistler next March. We went years ago and I can't really remember much about the village. I want to book before 31st August to get early booking discounts and there are discounts on most of the main hotels.
So, which hotels would you recommend and why?

The one with the free hookers and complimentary cocaine. Or was that the other way around?

How long for, how many people, what end of the spectrum?
I combined the trip with time in Vancouver so coached in early on my first day and out late on the last. Delta Suites worked well as they made the health club available for changing / showering at arrival and departure, and I wanted the kitchen in the suite for breakfast and snacks. I'm sure the people I skied and drank with from the 4 Seasons had a plusher room and the concierge waiting to take their skis by the lift after the final run and the end of the eased their eventual stumble home, but I know I paid less and spent little enough time in the room to care.

4 Seasons, Westin and Fairmont if you want lux and ski valets etc. Delta or somewhere like Crystal lodge are handy enough. I wouldn't go pricey and a bus ride away.

I was about to recommend the Cedar Springs Lodge - not sure it will tempt you at first though

Food's great, hosts are awesome. It's out in Alpine meadows but they will happily take you to the lifts in the morning and pick you up later on when you give them a call (they have a toll free number but local calls are free anyway I think?).#
Did I mention the food is great? We've stayed there twice now (two * two week trips)

We stayed at the Delta Suites, although that must have been about 15 years ago now. Nice spacious accommodation with a sitting room, fireplace, kitchen for breakfast and odd snacks although we ate out practically every evening bar one. It was a bit of a walk through the village to the lifts from memory but I think that we stored the skis somewhere at the bottom of the lifts. Daughter and SIL stayed at Chateau Whistler, if its still called that, a couple of years ago on their honeymoon in January. They had found a deal somewhere.

We've stayed in the PanPacific Village twice - absolutely fantastic and you can use the facilities of the PanPacific Mountainside to store your skis just opposite the lifts. Also stayed in Summit Lodge last year, a lot cheaper but still good. Driver takes you and drops you off at the lifts and we never had to wait. It was really no big deal and the mini bus drivers are great fun!

Thanks for suggestions so far. Def not interested in bus ride or needing to be dropped off at the lifts. I don't mind a schlep on the first day...I seem to recall now that we stored the skis at the lift station.

holidayloverxx, we've stayed at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler three times, though two of those were in Summer. Love it there. Great location and service, spa/pool/hot tubs and Mallard Bar. Pricy though unless you can get a deal which you sometimes can. We had a deal once for a room on the Fairmont Gold level which included breakfast and afternoon drinks, snacks it was really good.
Been tempted by the Coast Blackcomb too having seen it from the Wizard chair, it's ski-in/out on Blackcomb and looks to have a really great outdoor pool and hot tubs.

If you are on a budget, but need somewhere clean and convenient to stay, the Holiday Inn in Whistler Village is hard to beat. Right in the centre of the Village, so 2 minutes to the main lifts. You can leave your skis and boots in the lockers opposite the lifts. Numerous restaurants and bars right outside your door. Ask for a quiet room and you won't be troubled by the noise. If you want a pool, room-service, cocktail lounge, hot & cold running flunkeys etc. then there are places like the Fairmont that come at a price. If you want a comfy bed, nice-sized rooms (the rooms are small apartments with kitchen and dining areas) at a reasonable price, then the Holiday Inn fits the bill.

We have always used the Delta as it is good value yet near enough to walk to the lifts. They do have a free bus too but it is only 7mins walk and if you leave your kit at the storage there is no point in getting a bus. We like the 1 bed suite that are very reasonable prices and you can add on another bedroom if you want. Delta is having an upgrade as we speak and they have finally got a bar/restaurant back.
Sister stayed at Crystal and was ok. Big rooms usual US hotel style and very handy for the lifts.
Position is key in our eyes; in that being in the Village means you can walk everywhere. TO's will all do similar prices until you find one that breaks ranks and does a very good deal that the others will not match. Even when they say they will match anything ! Most of the time we go with Ski Independence but have used Virgin and Crystal too. They are all the same so the cheapest offer is the best, they do all have reps but I have never seen one. All the Tickets are in the room and you may get a telephone call.
Air Canada flights get you there earlier but not as early as they used to. Also note you can get 4 hours skiing in on the return day (get the right pass!) as they do not collect you until 2ish or even later for BA flight.
You need to book before November to get the biggest "early bird discounts"
Note last 2 weeks in March are BC School holidays ! So busier though not as bad as I thought it would be when we went last year.

Jake43, I usually get ski independence and frontier ski fighting it out . we go to Canada most years so I'm familiar with how it all works. We are going 7th march and I'll be booking this week.

holidayloverxx, I've always found Whistler to be much cheaper on a self-assembly basis. Lots of independently-owned apartments and most will do you a deal for a week or more. p

We have had some great packages put together by Ski Safari. They get some good deals with Air Canada, and offer a range of hotels/apartments. We stayed at Whistler Creekside before (quieter base without all the restaurants, bars etc of the main Whistler resort, but quick gondola access to the main ski area. Ski Safari will also put together some nights in Vancouver if you want to add this to the holiday. They will tailor make the package that you want - highly recommended.

holidayloverxx, we had a condo in Village North, in Glacier's Reach. At the bus stop so no walking, but not too far via the bars on the way home.

holidayloverxx, if you haven't done already sign up to the Fairmont loyalty thing, I heard about it on here, they do 'great rates' promotions and occasionally just very occasionally there might be a great rate on the Chateau
