Snow Reports

Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Salient point from the Coroner at the end of that article: "Coroner Crerar recommended skiers regularly check and replace critical equipment.
He also recommended skiers check and then double-check their gear -- preferably using a buddy system -- before embarking on a high-risk ski.
"
buddy system of checks is a key component of other high risk activities, particularly scuba diving. Worth considering for those who venture into 'no fall' zones.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Magnus had very much a "Mcgyver" approach to his gear, sad to say.

Reading that; the comment that his boots were in walk mode may be the critical thing!
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Could be although it generally doesn't make a huge difference for good skiers.
The principal risks if you are using tech bindings premature toe piece release due to:
i. worn inserts
ii. ice formation in the inserts or under the toe piece - you can check for this before you start by trying to lock the toe piece, if it won't lock there's a problem and you should find out what it is
most steep skiers lock the toe pieces anyway so will notice this.

The number of times I have had friends say at the bottom of an off-piste run "Oh, I just realised I had my boots in walk mode all down that!"

I have done that myself many times. Never caused a fall and generally just feels like I am having an 'off' day; and I am far from being a pro.
