Hi Buzzfan, I can't make any personal recommendations as it is a while since I worked there but here's a list of all the ski schools, guides and the numerous independents that have set up in resort over the last few years. The Austrians refer to independent instructors as one-man ski schools. There's also Piste to Powder for guided off piste groups. I'm sure other snowHeads will be able to give you some named recommendations though. http://www.stantonamarlberg.com/en/winter/skischulen/index.html
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks @Juliad - have looked through the list - from the names I think every single one is an austrian local - we'd prefer a progressive instructor who's first baggage was english if there are any working there
I know Hans has got a Burberry holdall he's had a while if that helps.
The main Arlberg school has a number of Scandi/international instructors and can do full guiding so why not speak to them about your needs.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Yes they are mainly locals as it is really difficult for British (& other foreign) instructors to set up there permanently as independents/British ski schools, but a number of those will speak excellent English. I trained for my first level Austrian exam with Angelika (Geli) Häusl years ago and she spoke excellent English, was a great instructor and is now a qualified guide.
As Dave of the Marmottes suggested, try contacting the Arlberg ski school as they will have instructors who speak fluent English. They might even have the odd Brit working for them too?
Buzzfan, there are many great instructors in the Arlberg Ski School, 95% of whom speak fluent English.
For guiding, check out: http://www.skiadventure.eu Torben's a good guy, knows the Arlberg like the back of his hand, speaks perfect English; and is an excellent, very safe guide.
Then you can post your own questions or snow reports...

or the giant arlberg schischule, and then there a few private one person companies too.

Piste to Powder, mentioned above (Run by English guide Graham Austick who is a wonderful guide) will put you with an off piste group of your standard. Good but quite expensive. I think they may also do off piste instruction but you would have to ask.
I have had Pio Jutz, local guide highly recommended to me. pio@alpin-dreams.com (St Anton) +43 664 5328607 http://www.alpin-dreams.com/index.php?lang=en
Like most local St Anton guides, he finishes at 4pm. If you want to ski till the lifts close make this clear when you book but he will charge a bit more.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Talking about off piste in the Arlberg reminds me of this little find from the other day. Apologies if it's been posted before. I thought it was a brilliant short freeride film.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Another for piste to powder, can't remember the girls * name but she was excellent. High quality instruction which helped both my wife and I. Small group with all kit included. We hired powder ski (110 under foot) for the day and now have a longer wish list than before!
*she and her husband are pro skiers on the RedBull extreme circuit but she was working for P2P so to lookafter her daughter. Both are born/breed St Anton.
