Is it possible to do a long weekend? Thurs-Sunday ?.bed/ breakfast or half board,looked all over net,everything that comes up is miles away, anyone out there with any info or experience of a doing a short break ? Got flights lined up from Munich,if we can find a place to stay.

rothwell, Yes. Did it a couple of years ago. Back to Munich on Sunday can be a 'mare with traffic so allow plenty of time (e.g. twice what you think it should take  )

quite often do fri-sun, but tend to stay in innsbruck, and drive "wherever", but "wherever" is often Mayrhofen, Zell am Ziller, or Kaltenbach, all of which are in the same valley. Don't rule out those other villages in the valley. All 3 (and Hintertux too) have big free carparks, assuming you were gettin a rental car at MUC.

If you go onto www.mayrhofen.at there is a function where you send an accommodation request to all registered hotels/guest houses etc. should get something outside of the really busy weeks.

Yes, did a Thursday to Sunday trip this year. Flew into Munich, rented a car, booked a hotel through booking.com. Worked out perfectly (except the snow wasn't great due to quite hot weather and low snowfall for most if February and March. The car meant we could spend 2 days on the glacier at hintertux.

Better to do Sat to Wednesday (or Tuesday) tho, then you don't block off 2 weeks, much easier to find accomodation. Try Haus Monika, http://www.gaestehausmonika.at/unser_haus.htm
