Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Good presentation by the NY Times, with some great footage of Ligety. I was at a conference last year where Ron LeMaster showed how Ligety is allowing his outside ski to drift out to the side of the new turn without pressuring/being balanced on it to create large edge angles very early in the turn. Amazing skiing.

rob@rar, that made me laugh out loud. I was told off by Simon Butler for doing exactly that (entirely unwittingly of course) while doing some Super-G with him last week. I guess he would tell me it's quite unnecessary for the longer turns and the (illegal) shorter, shapelier skis I was using!

Ligety is a great skier.
However he is not a good example to copy.

All WC racers can carve perfect turns in the snow.
Therefore to get ahead people like Ligety need to use unconventional techniques to get marginally ahead. These concepts generally don't translate well into "normal" high end skiing.

laundryman, excellent find, very simple with perfect graphics and video overlays... I think he is a good model to aspire to but he has a much higher degree of athleticism and balance than us mere mortals so not everything he does in a race context translates well to performance free skiing for recreational skiers but if you wanna go quick on long boards in gates he is the model to emulate...

Even he couldn't cope with the second run of the Olympic slalom course. Carnage!

Pedantica, the course setting was a shocker. I have no idea why Ante Kostelic is still allowed to set slalom courses Mad

kooky, I love the way Emma C-A remarked that he must have had too many vodkas before he set it! Laughing

He is allowed to set courses as he is the coach of a top seed racer. When Ivica retires Croatia will no longer be in the draw for setters even if Ante remains the national coach as they don't have another quick enough racer.

It won't be much fun for the 46 other racers after the TV coverage has ended.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

the Ligety clips are pretty sweet! I love the way he talks about his skiing - it's a little different to what you normally hear. Well worth a watch. But yeah, pretty hard to do...

I'm trying.... oh, yeah, I'm trying....
