Is this because LP has the largest capacity?

chopkins13, then you clearly haven't stayed in plagne centre Where not more than an hour can pass without something you want being either a) uphill or b) along a massive flat bit c) up a lift with a queue to infinity..I am still unsure how a purpose built resort is so inconvenient for almost everything all the time...Although esher-inspired arc2000 is also an interesting study on that topic and I like it there.

Worst ski resort I have ever been to, closely followed by Pas De La Casa.

Intersting place LP. Only resort I know of where they took the original hubs ie Plagne Centre and Plagne Bellecotte, built more satellite villages above them and then expected everyone to ski down to the original hubs to get up the mountain. Result - some of the most overcrowded pistes I have ever seen - to the point of being dangerous and absolutely huge lift queues. Shame as I actually have quite a soft spot for the place - my son learnt to ski in Plagne Centre. Classic case of too much development with no thought being given to the fact that the mountain itself does not grow in size at the same time !

Interesting report. Surely it must be a bit connected to capacity and costs - La Plagne.
Some Austrian resorts are also quite high on this list.
Also:
"There are 26,934 ski lifts in the world" - wow
"25 years ago there were around 40 resorts in Europe offering summer skiing, now there are a dozen"

Perhaps we were just plain lucky. Stayed at plagne centre over Feb half term last year and apart from a 10 minute queue at Bellecotte, queuing averaged 1 - 2 minutes. A few flat bits but the area gives a real sense of travel. Architecturally slated but some of our inner cities are infinitely more hideous.
Or maybe my expectations are not as high as others?

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Many years ago we went there with a small operator called Tracer and it cost peanuts. We had a great chalet apartment and our own ski guide. It snowed nearly every night and we had bluebird powder days. If the snow is good it doesn't matter where you are!

Hmm...given that Courchevel, Meribel and Mottaret get one entry, but then Val Thorens and Les Menuires get 2 separate entries even though they are just as linked as the other 3, this is all a bit daft.
The statistic I'd be interested in is number of skiers per km of piste over a season per resort. Then you could really work out where to avoid if you hate crowds and where to go!
I like the other odd bits of info though....feeds my between season ski geek tendencies.
