Three of us who are in the habit of driving to the EoSB are looking for a change of location for the Friday night, having been underwhelmed by our meal in Brides les Bains last time. We are thinking of staying in Moutiers this time and what we are looking for is a cheap, clean hotel with car parking and the availability of a really excellent steack frites either on the premises or within walking distance. All recommendations welcome. Thank you.

Pedantica, we really struggled with Moutiers the previous year, hence the switch to Brides when you joined us. Hopefully someone will have a recommendation

holidayloverxx, ah. Interesting. Can you by any chance remember the name of the place where we ate that year? It was near the casino and the food was excellent. We might go back to that formula again.

I'm not sure about hotels but Le Coq Rouge in Moutiers is a great restaurant!

Dia_FindTransfers, is that fairly central?

Yes, it is in the old part of town. It doesn't look much from the outside but the food is great.

Overnight in Albertville instead? A larger town with more choice of Hotels and restaurants. Unfortunately, my only experience of Moutier is the A+E dept. there!

Pedantica, in 2011 Jules and I wandered around Moutier for an hour or so after visiting the supermarket, it was too hot to contemplate skiing, and we'd decided to stop off for lunch somewhere, There seemed to be very little in the way of hotels in town. Starting to plan ahead, I'll happily stay in the Athena again, but the name of that resto escapes me , I could walk to it though.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Pedantica, hold yr horses....there's a couple of v good looking hotel options in Moutiers:
http://www.hotelterminus-moutiers.com/en/
http://www.aubergedesavoie.com/en/
both in centre w access to loverly restos and former at least w its own parking and plenty cheaper than the Athena. Whilst we have a decent breakfast bladeskier, can run around the hypermarket and buy our stuff.

DoubleBombardino, I think we tried them and they wouldn't take one night bookings which is why we've ended up in the Athena, but willing to have another look. .

Pedantica, I've had a look at the links to Auberge de Savoie, it doesn't look too bad TBH. It's always nicer to be sociable and eat with others.

Hells Bells, yeah, it does look nice. Maybe if we whack in a joint booking they might waive any single night restriction they might otherwise have?

Pedantica, they don't seem to have one, I've just checked out booking.com and they will take one night bookings and they accept dogs.

Hells Bells, good work. Shall we leave this thread up for a day or two, to see whether anyone's actually stayed or eaten at the Auberge de Savoie?
Are Meg and Lola both coming?

Forgot about the mutts and have banged in a request for availability etc to the Terminus people, if the deal seems good then will slip in a query about well-behaved creatures....Can't see why these hotels are going to be prissy about 1 night bookings at that time of year esp.

DoubleBombardino, we'll be happy to stay in the Auberge de Savoie, and can always meet up somewhere for dinner if necessary. I will sort our room out there, as we will probably want to book a larger one. Pedantica, at the moment they will both be coming.

DoubleBombardino, quite the opposite, Nigel Clough in as new Manager saw us storm to a 3-1 victory. Optimism reigns, well for this weekend at least.

ah, good to hear that, expectations managed too, you just seemed a bit peeved. So yes, ta v much for the Auberge tip-off.
What do you reckon to Chelsea for the Prem League title, best odds about 9/4? Can't see either Man team doing it, cld well be btwn Chelsea and Arsenal...

DoubleBombardino, I'm peeved because I'm having to do the night shift, controller's gone sick. If you're bored at 3am feel free to give me a bell for a chat !
Don't forget Spurs.

bladeskier, just remember to call that sicko controller from the EoSB post vodka party for sweet revenge.
Can't see Spurs having the stomach for the fight once it gets orrible and muddy, traditional question mark for Arsenal too. We should also flag Liverpool.
