Hi fellow skiers,
My name is Jack Miles, and I am currently doing my disseration on the "motivations behind consumers purchasing a skiing holiday", it would be hugely appreciated if you could spend a few minutes filling out this questionnaire for me.
The link is: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/VW5LTQY
Thanks very much,
Jack

Question 14 needs rewording I think - I found is almost impossible to answer: price is not the only differentiator between a packaged and an independent holiday, the choice may vary by quality, location, convenience etc.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I took it to mean, everything else being equal, would you prefer a package or indepdent

19. Please rank the main reasons you wouldn't go on a ski holiday?
er...there aren't any! N/A to all

jfmiles, I would suggest you need to look more carefully at a lot of that - it is not very well put together:
- Q2 - "Have you ever been on a skiing holiday before?" Before what? This only needs to ask if one has been on a skiing holiday.
- Q3 - what is a "UK specialist facility"? Does that mean indoor slopes and dry slopes and outdoor snow (eg Raise, Glenshee etc). And why "before" - presumably you mean as preparation? I, and a lot of other people, ski in the UK as an end rather than merely as preparation for skiing elsewhere. Sometimes, I even ski at home after having been abroad. And I don't really understand why 'prefer' is there.
- Q4-Q13 - these are all questions (Q13 is missing its "?") but you want us to respond to "statements". I cannot agree or disagree with "Do you have the motivation etc" - that needs a yes/no response.
I agree with the comment above about Q14 - 2 weeks in 4* hotel in N America for the same price as a week in a B&B in Braemar? Much as I like Braemar, I know which I would choose!

holidayloverxx, yes he forgot to have "cannot get time off work" to the list. I imagine that is something that stops lots of us going as often as we like. The wording of the question is a little vague and ambiguous in many places.

I've done it but it really is poorly worded.

every single survey that gets posted here and on other forums is badly worded and/or not properly thought out.
couldn't answer half the questions, so didn't submit

I particularly enjoyed Q11. You can interpret it in two different ways. If skiing holidays were more popular with the lower social classes then the upper social classes might be less inclined to go, but if you are also lower social class then you might be pleased and feel more comfortable to have Zermatt filled with the cast of Benefits Street.

I didn't bother, sorry. This is one of the worst drafted surveys I have yet encountered via this forum. Questions 4 to 12 are not worded in such a way as to require responses on the sliding scale you offer and are worded in a way that vague and woolly.....Do I "feel satisfied"?... Questions of motivation .....eh?
I will try and avoid becoming a grammar Nazi but as a starter- "Skiiers Questionnaire" should be "Skiers' Questionnaire".
USE YOUR BRAIN AND THINK. If you are a university student purporting to undertake this exercise, I suggest you go back to the drawing board. This looks like a last minute panic idea for a dissertation due in by the end of the Easter hols.....Am I right to assume that you fired the survey into the snowheads website only? In which case the answers to question 2 aren't going to elicit any "no-I wouldn't want to"....
I also get a sense that the rather random questions are loosely directed (loosely- as a result of lack of focus) at a hypothesis that skiing is for posh people who want to get away from the "lower classes"...

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Perty, actually, I read it as the opposite. A survey directed at 'lower social classes' who may not ski as they feel it's 'not for the likes of them'.

^^that's the problem of online questionnaires
those that ask the questions have chosen questions presumably that will help with their dissertation
those that answer them try to work out or second guess what the student is trying to find out and those answers will probably contain some bias
personally if it were me, 80% of the questions would be ones like that to fool people in to providing biased or swayed answers, with only 1 or 2 real questions.
for all we know there could be 20 different questionnaires on 20 different sport/enthusiast sites and the only actual real question is "what age band are you?". or something. or could be completely unrelated to skiing and the only real question is about how easy or difficult is it to get away from work to go on holiday.

Seems workable, chill a little guys! Q11 is a little sketchy i'll admit but an ounce of intelligence from the questionee and you can understand what jfmiles, is getting at.
help the guy/girl out (or at least be funny in your put downs)

dulcamara, I agree. As a group we tend to take a survey invitation as a request for our communal feedback on how the survey should have been written. Not terribly helpful to the OP.

I'm clearly a few drams short of an ounce because I genuinely don't know what he is getting at with Q11 but then, to be fair, it shouldn't stop me answering the question and then letting jfmiles do what he likes with the answer.

He can't even spell "dissertation". Not a good start ....is this really someone doing a degree? Sloppy request+ Sloppy questions x Poor results from survey, poor analysis =limited value and weight to be placed on conclusions to dissertation.
.............
I could be even more detailed in my critique, and the urge to construct a better set of questions and do his homework for him is making me twitch!
