MaxiMac, I think you probably can. We did a short tour a few years back from somewhere above SJd'A which suggests it might be possible.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Never tried it (it would be all off piste) but potentially you could if there was enough snow on all the route - would guide up tho

Don't see why a guide would be essential.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Yes, you can easily get from the top of the ski area in Abondance to Les Onchets. This is in the valley which runs up from the Abbey. Indeed in very good snow years you can sometimes ski down the road to the Abbey. It is a known touring route and you can skin up if you wanted. Probably more used by snowshoers these days. Not a difficult ski down but not very exciting either. Essentialy a 4x4 track in the summer. You can cut off a few corners.
To access it from the Abondance side go to the top of the Grand Fremoux drag and drop over the ridge keeping to the left on the blue run - L'Ecuelle. When you get to the end of the sl uphill schuss where the track bears to the right then you just turn left and go down the valley.
There is parking at Les Onchets but no bus service. About 1.5 miles from the centre of St Jean.
If you are more adventurous you can drop into the same valley by going straight over the ridge from the top of the drag Corne 2 but steep and thickly wooded in parts
I was down this Feb but would doubt there is enough snow at the moment
