Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Bergfex or SCGB - which is more accurate?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
As my recent ski trip to Switzerland approached, I did my usual thing of avidly looking at the snow forecasts (causing me to pointlessly switch back and forth between gloom and elation depending what the forecasts said). As I've done before, I looked at the Ski Club of Great Britain one, and also Bergfex. There always seemed quite a disparity between what the two sites were forecasting. In the end, the weather turned out to be quite close to what the SCGB site said, more so than Bergfex. I was just wondering what others have found in this respect. Has one of these sites turned out to be consistently more accurate than the other for you in its weather predictions? And if so, has this applied to both short-term and long-term forecasts?

Have found the opposite, Bergfex not only gives more info but tends, in my view, to be more accurate. The 9 day forecast is abonus too but we all know how weather patterns can change. ScGB shite only allows up to 6 days and with less info.
Other sites in use are weather2ski and snow-forecast both okay and free but Bergfex is still my pref.
Anyway, thats my 2peneth.

Aren't the SCGB and snow-forecast ones exactly the same? And if you're a Ski Club member (as I am), you do get 9 days of forecast, although I take with a large pinch of salt anything further ahead than 4-5 days.

Bergfex is brilliant! It constantly over predicts snowfall putting you in a good mood, Look at it a week ahead, make your plans and then dont look at it again, all will be well.

I tend to just use the local ones for your chosen resort, they all have pretty pictures so are pretty easy to understand dispite language barriers and are in my opion better suited to the nuances of each resort. I am yet to find a Uk based site i trust.

Yes, that's what I noticed too, quite consistently - predicting far more snow than SCGB (and proving wrong). I just wondered whether it was some kind of aberration (or that I was maybe misinterpreting what it meant), but it's interesting someone else has experienced the same.

personally I always take the worst case as being more accurate....

I do find the 9 days snow fall, and 9 day temperature forecasts from Snow-forecast help full as an indicator of what is expected to come through at some time in the future.
Having said that its really difficult, actually impossible to get any accurate forecasting further out than 3 days IME.

default method is go high unless its a mega snow season already..

Unless its changed and it might have done the SCGB forecast is taken from snowforecast anyway. Nozawaonsen's thread seems to me to be the most reliable though.

Yes this, it predicts 30cm of snow then changes it to 3cm at midnight. I just look at as many as I can be bothered, snowforecast.com or somehting similar seems ok.

I quite like Netweather.tv. Seems to me to be slightly less prone to the boom and bust of some other sites?
