Poster: A snowHead
|
All
Recently posted requesting advice on resorts but everything has changed, ie. dates! So early Feb, taking 2 experienced dads, 2 teenage daughters, therefore looking for easy transfer for a weekend, thats why decided on the 3 in the title. But what would be best for a mix of beginners and a bit of life etc and reasonable priced accommodation? The beginners sectiona nd a bit of life is probably the most important
Any tips gratefully received!!
Matt

Mayrhofen has all you need plus friendly Austrians who welcome visitors.

From the Avoriaz/Morzine point of view you're in the same ski area (Portes du Soleil) so doesn't really matter which you stay in. Of the 2 I'd suggest Morzine for your group as there's more life in town than up in Avoriaz (though it's not bad for a French, purpose-built mountain-top resort).
The Morzine/Les Gets section of the PdS is a little separated from the rest and probably not enough on its own to amuse experienced skiers for more than a couple of days but is where the Morzine ski schools run. Based on that you may want to book the beginners in to the Avoriaz school instead - so you can actually get some fun miles in before having to head back and meet them post-school. If they are week 1 beginners then you'll need to take the free bus to Prodains with them each morning but if week 2+ they will probably be OK to ski over.
That said Austrian apres is normally way better than French...

Naa. Germknödel mit vanillesoße* or Kaiserschmarrn.

Ok I'll jump in. Both PdS and Mayrhofen are great ski areas but are quite different in vibe. The only thing I would say is that it can be difficult getting accommodation in Mayrhofen for a long weekend; not impossible but difficult especially self-catering accommodation. We found it easier to get weekend accommodation in Morzine.

Lots and lots of love for The Hof! And as you rightly point out, my difficulty at the moment is finding decent cheap accommodation for a weekend, much easier to find places in Avoriaz and Morzine.... I do fancy the Austrian apres though..... nothing against the french of course!
